drivetrain winding noise
I dealt with a bad bearing recently and it basically sounded like those big noisy truck tires. Generally started to hear it once I got up around 40. Wiggling the tire didn't show any excessive play. I also don't recall hearing it quiet down when turning in a particular direction until it became much louder. It was very apparent that it was quieting down when turning one way by quickly swerving back and forth, which would produce a distinct break in the noise.
This LSJ build book chapter goes through a clutch install and the removal and install of the hub assembly is covered -> http://www.gmtunersource.com/media/r...LSJ_Chap_5.pdf
According to this, the three hub bolts are 85 ft/lb and the axle nut is 155 ft/lb.
Also, when you go to buy a bearing, it's best to avoid the cheaper off-brands at the chain stores. Timken, National, and SKF are good brands. You'll also find them cheaper online, but watch out for super cheap ebay deals and such because some counterfeits are out there. I've always found Rock Auto to be a reliable online store with lower prices.

Like I said, I didn't notice the sound changing while turning until it got bad. It had to be loud enough to drown out the normal road noise and be audible with the radio on before I could tell it was getting quiet when turning in a particular direction. Starts as a low hum and progressively works it's way up to sounding like low-flying plane at highway speed. Look on youtube, I believe people have posted videos of what a bad wheel bearing sounds like. You described it as a winding noise, so if it's more of a high-pitched sound, it may be something else.
You'll also have to pinpoint which wheel it is if it's a bad wheel bearing. I could easily tell which one was bad and quickly swerving confirmed it. But, I'm not sure if a bad bearing in the rear gets quieter when you turn, it may not load the bearing like it does in the front.
if your at 80mph and you put the car in 4th gear or maybe even have it in 5th (wouldn't be as loud). and let of the gas completely at a high speed and have the car in gear but your foot isn't on the gas do you hear the noise? it sounds like a transmission noise whine? now put your foot down on the clutch does the noise go away? or take it out of gear and coast do you still hear the noise? now notice if you have the car in gear at 80mph in 4th gear and completely let off the gas and coast do you hear the whine or sounds like chains or something banging around? now slightly give the car gas it should be at like -22 -25 in vacuum on the boost gauge and make it read like -10 in vacuum or even 0psi. do you hear the noise then?
basically do you hear the noise only when you let off the gas completely and it is in gear higher rpm's? if so i think it might be your transmission. i am having the same problem and had the problem for the past 10k miles and it's been driving me nuts. not sure what it is. have a friend who works at a trans show and told me it's something inside the trans.
please let me know if this is the problem your having

don't think so. i replaced my clutch and got my stock flywheel resurfaced. if your having the same problem as me i am pretty sure its the trans. if u end up fixing it let me know how much it cost and what was wrong with the trans.
Went to a trany shop n they think the bearing sound is coming from. the throwout bearibg. He saud it could becoming unseated since i have 158+k miles on it.
Also, wen i engage my clutch from a stop it, the clutch itself, makes alota cluttering noise....suggesting that, even though it grabs good, its prolly time to geta new clutch. Any thots?

thats not true. I know what DFCO is and this is a completely different jerk. Besides, DFCO isnt going to change unless the tune does..and this jerking has begun recently and gotten worse.
Its the same pulse you feel when your accelerating, which is what I was told something about the gear ratio changing over. Idk the truth. but im worried about this jerk,
