Did you happen to ask him what metal the spring was made out of? That was something a friend and I were curious about.

I did not.. I did ask about the life span of the muffler having a spring in an extreme heat location.. His response was something to the effect of the closed off chamber the spring is in wouldn't see the "extreme heat" and to think of it like the thottle return spring on anything non-drive-by-wire, they typically last the life of the car....

We'll see...

Yea, that's what we were concerned about as well, mild steel + extreme heat fluctuations = dead spring.

I'd love to hear this as well... I'm looking into piecing together a costum exhaust in the future. pacesetter header -> 3" dp with hi-flo cat & 2.5" exit -> 2.5" tubing w/ (insert resonator of choice, have to do research) -> ottp over axel replacement 2.5" -> this muffler.

as for muffler size, do the math... 14.7 psi is atmospheric pressure, so when we run 14.7+ Psi, it's a naturally aspirated car's worth of air, plus another atmospheric pressure, aka 2 x 2 Liter = 4.0L. That's assuming volumetric efficiency of a NA car to be 100% which it isn't... so we are over 4.0L output.

The decision is yours... under cruising and idle conditions, our airflow is so close to a NA car we can go to < 4.0L route. whereas under WOT we have equal to and greater than 4.0L output, get the larger one. Want extra quiet? larger. not so quiet? smaller

^Why don't instead of buying the over axel do you not buy the 2.5" piping kit from mandrel exhaust systems add a resonator and then buy this muffler that's what I'm going to do but with 3"

Keep in mind the over/under 4.0L thing is a matter of the amount of air pressure needed to open the valve. Realistically, none of us should need the over 4.0L muffler since we don't move that much air on a daily driving basis.

If your starting with an LSJ cat-back then a CTI overaxel us probably a good idea. $95 for the peice and choose your own muffler.

But if your starting with a 3" aftermarket catback like you, me and the person who started this thread, the lnf catback is a better choice. You can find used LNF catbacks much easier then LSJ. And when you find them they are the same price.

Instead of paying $125 for an LSJ catback and $95 for the over axel peice to get a true 2.5" cat you can just buy a lnf catback.

I agree then lnf catback sound crapy at wot throttle though.... I thought it would sound better.

I wanna hear a sound clip as well. I'm muffler deleted now which sounds good, but drones a little on the highway. I'd like to do catless + this muffler if it will sound good to get a nice tone when WOT, but without the drone on the highway I've got now, especially with the windows closed.

I ordered the under 4.0L version.. At no point is this muffler "stock quiet"

But.. Idle is bearable..

Cruise is bearable..

WOT is freaking wicked.. It sounds like a legends car..

Regular Acceleration... Is.... Embarrassing.. it's no worse than your average 3" exhaust, but i wanted "Stock quiet" like the ads claim. The over 4.0L version might help this problem.. I don't know

Current Set-Up is Pacesetter Header - 3" DP w/ High-flow cat - 3" Catback w/ 3" Dynomax VTMuffler

I previously had GMPP Touring.... This is 3 times louder everywhere..

Massive rich smoke cloud... I know.. I know

YouTube - Cobalt SS Dynomax VT Muffler - In Car

The Camera was wedged under the headrest, so it squeaks most of the video.. sorry
Also.. the "****!" at the end of the video was in response to me hitting the rev limiter..

Not my cup of tea. Too raspy for me, but that's an LSJ. I'm interested in this on an LNF.
