E85 people!

people running E85, what would i have to do to my car to get it to run E85? i ordered the OTTP kit that comes with 60lb injectors, are those big enough to run E85? i know ill need a different tune and a different fuel pump as well correct? and would it be worth switching to E85? in over words, pros and cons.

i dont know if theres a thread on this already but if so look at it this way, my new thread will just bring up the topic again and it'll have new opinions due to people that just recently switched their cars over to E85 will have this thread to post in!

thanks in advance for any info that you put forward!

are you running m62 or TVS?

80s and tune are what you want!

Need 80's and a tune for starters. If you have E85 available around you you will NOT regret going E!

I was running E85 all winter and it started right up every single time, even at -20. My friends with subarus cars dont like to start but for some reason mine never gave me trouble

E85 CAN be ran on 60lb injectors, however you WILL run out of fuel very quickly. From what I have seen the injectors are maxed at 6k or slightly earlier. Again this will very on your setup etc, but on the TVS and 2.7 pulley I maxed 80lb injectors out around 6k with e85. On the m62 and 2.7 pulley I maxed out 60lbers at 6k also on e85.

E85 really should be ran on 80lb injectors, however if you are on a stock pulley setup and 60lbers, or a large pulley with not a lot of other mods it MIGHT be possible to get away with 60lbers. I know there isn't a lot of proven data on 60lbers and e85, however I have been doing a decent amount of testing and again depending on the setups/air flow it very well might be able to get up to that 6500 redline mark that some cars are running.

But for the majority of people wondering if e85 is worth it. It is VERY worth it. On e85 you can run an endless amount of timing and not see knock. The gas mileage isn't terrible terrible. I can average 250-280 on a tank of e85 depending on how much my foot is in it. With 90% of highway mileage yesterday I pulled 270ish I believe and that was doing several wot pulls on 60lbers testing to see how e85 would do.

Hopefully this info sheds some light on the topic for you op. The only 2 things you need to successfully run e85 are 80lb injectors and a tune

thanks for the info so far guys.

im gonna be running a M62 w/ 2.8 pulley and 60lb injectors for now but maybe in the near future i will make the switch to 80lb injectors and a new tune and run E85. the car isnt my daily driver so im not really worried about mpg's that much as long as it isnt WAY down there.

anything else someone would like to add, feel free!

It's not just the ability to run timing, it's the ability to stop detonation. For example some cars run moderate timing however when in certain gears at certain rpms *for example a stage 2 car on 91 in wyoming driving up a hill* can have knock. On e85 this will not happen because the octane is much much higher.

So it's not just the more timing factor, its the extremely high octane factor that helps stop knock. Not only does it help with that though, it also runs much cooler.

Here is a post someone made on a different forum talking about e85.

blackedout06 - Whenever you plan on running e85 feel free to send me a pm. I can tune you and set you up on e85. Also if you need a tune for your 60lber 2.8 setup let me know. I am a traveling tuner

Thanks for the info zach. That's a great explination. I'll have to talk to my tuner about this if I can find it in my town. Any other suggested mods that are needed?

I'm running 2.8, 60, intake, and exhaust (for engine type mods that is)

It really depends on what you are wanting to do with the car. Most people on this site are "spirited" drivers however are not track racers. For these types of people, which you may or may not fall under cooling mods are NOT a necessity. For people that are running moderate sized pulleys that daily drive there car and get on it every now and then, cooling mods are not that important.

However when you get into running smaller pulleys iat2's are very important and even more so if you are at the track doing a lot of back to back pulls. Have your tuner monitor your iat2's and then do some reading and decide if you feel you need cooling mods.

Knock and High temps are what kills motors. Remember this and you will save your engines life =D

Kinda dissapointed.... Yesterday i got a present, My buddy took my car for me to get it dyno tune. I have e85 on 60's full cooling mod, opt b. running around 20lbs of boost, mid lenth cti headers 3 in dp high flow cat, 2.5 cat back no res magnaflow muff. zzp 3in intake and the numbers was below 250 to the wheels, but so called 285 to the motor. im so upset happy with the present but upset cuz i spent all this money plus a present and still cant break 300. plus i have sputter at 5760rpm. I must admit 1st gear forget about it. But i dont have my top end any more. Looking at the dyno sheet i power droped off at 6k. Really not happy. Slap on a t3/t4 turbo and be at 350 easy. What to do!!!!!!!

What pulley are you on to see that boost? With those exhaust mods, you should never see 20 lbs on the M62. Id check for restrictions before anything.
