Electric Cut Outs

Does Anyone have them on their SS/SC. If they do did you feel the power gain. Im thinking about getting them next month. Its my first modd. I want to open up the exaust. and still keep the factory stuff. I want the sleeper look.

This topis has come up a few times. This is what under my own experiance (I really really wanted one) and from what people have told me is the case.

The motor won't gain anything by having it dump out the down pipe or header because of lost exhaust velocity. Try opening you header to the atmosphere and giving the car some revs, it will probably stall.

There is not a lot of room to stick and EEC, you will probably rip it off if you run over so road kill (or drag the animal for miles), or get some odd pavement(speedbumbs, potholes).

I have a manual cutout that I'm gonna install tomoro hopefully, That will delet the mufler and exit right infront of the driver right tire. There is a good spot for one there. No really, go look under the car. And, there is a video of someone w/ an EEC hooked up there floating around the internet somewhere.

LSJ isnt turbo'd..... you will regret doing this.

1. it will sound like a massey-fergusson
2. you will lose power.

Im not saying this from personal experience....Im saying this from the multiple times ive seen people trying/discussing this for the LSJ.

I thought that if you open your exhaust on a S/C engine it will produce more power.

Thats why getting bigger headers and less restrictive exhaust system gives alot of power to these cars.

Ive seen it on QTP website and they have a cobalt with it and it sounds nice

Heres The Link

I don't think that the cutout in the video is right out of the downpipe.

Ok Ill describe it as best I can, though im not a pro on this.

Imagine your engine is your lungs, if your exhaust is a drinking straw....your lungs are restricted when trying to expel exhaust gasses..... (stock)

Now Imagine your exhaust is a garden hose....hmmmm lungs arent restricted....but you can get a good steady strong breath blowing. (nice exhaust system)

Now have you ever done a respiratory lung test? where you blow in that big pipe and all your breath just goes PAHHHH, then you wheeze for about 10 seconds trying to keep going? thats what a cutout does. sure you can puff all your air our real quick....but without proper exhaust sizing, you have no control over your EXHAUST GAS VELOCITY.
thats the key here....the right size exhaust will not restrict the flow of gasses.....BUT will be of a size to keep the velocity of the gasses at a maximum.

garden hose FTW.

Ok, Now I should be recieving my electric cutout in a couple of days. Last year I ran off the downpipe for awhile and I ran alot better while it was disconnected, off the line it takes away backpressure in which drains the boost, and draining the boost allowed me to hook off the line without the usual traction problems. Those couple times I ran at the track I ran a little faster quarter mile times, so I would say it is worth it, since I got a pacesetter header, i ordered a 2.5inch downpipe flange and thats going to be about 6inchs long and then I puting in the cutout, the cutout will sit higher so you will not have to worry about hitting anything. Since the cars in storage, I won't be able to post pics and let u know for a couple months, once its warmer out, I will post up and give more info.

GET A DMH!! ive had both DMH and QTP the DMH has superior quality. plus the switch for the DMH is a low profile rocker switch, the QTP is a big, fat, ugly, nasty looking flat, long, and wide blade switch. i have dual DMH cutouts 8 inches after my headers on my Z28.
