see i heard that you dont have to release the tensioner, and that it does it by itself- anyways im just taking it to a local shop and have them deal with it

Nah, you load it up out of the car, install it, then pop it into place. At least that's how the build book describes it and how i've always done it. I wouldn't trust installing it not compressed, and you can't verify it without pulling the valve cover anyway, so you are already there.

All my experience, there may be other ways. I just know what has worked for me

are you guys pretty positive this is the problem? I heard that it could be a part in the superchargerthat needs to be replaced..... I'll see if i can pull the thread up.

see i heard that was the case with the old design of tensioner, but i heard the new desing you just put in, set it, and the oil pressure takes care of the rest - idn lol whatever, as long as the worst noise in the world goes away

I'm relativley sure because its very distinctive where the noise is coming from.

Supercharger coupler. That usually doesn't sound like it's coming from the motor itself. Sounds more like the marbles in a can sound that some people describe.

I've put a new one in my motor, same procedure. The design is different around the outside though, there is an o-ring on the new design where there wasn't on the other one. Not sure of the exact differences, but I know I bought the one from the dealer about 5 months ago and it was different than the one pulled from my '06 LSJ.

the coupler. I need to pop the hood and pay attention to where the noise is coming from.

Put your hand on the blower. You can feel it kinda popping if its the coupler.

Odds are its the tensioner, much more common problem than the coupler.

*update*

Took the car to the dealership to have it checked out. They are saying its not the timing chain or tensioner. They think its in the head like the lifters or something. They have to keep my car and pull the engine apart now! I'm a little irritated cus they were trying to give me the whole I have intake and exhaust talk yada yada should be warrantied. Anyone have any idea?

*bump*

Just another update on my car. They really weren't sure what caused the issues with the cam or lifters. They are replacing any and all parts that looked like they needed to and all under warrenty. They are being really cool and thurough. I'm assuming could have been an improperly balanced or machined cam.

This is mainly to let anyone know that ya the timing chain may be a common issue, but don't just assume it is causing the noise that seems to be a common issue. If I had just replaced the tensioner myself I might not have ever known there was a larger problem till it was tool late.

Moral of the story is check all the head componenets out before fixing it yourself if you think its a timing chain issue.

*update*

Got my car back and I bet you guys can't guess what was wrong lol.

Thats right prognosis was Timing chain tensioner binding. Why they didn't admit it over the phone I dunno. I think maybe they weren't ruling anything else out before. They ended up having to replace the camshafts, lifters, and rockers tho and of course the tensioner. Hundreds of dollars worth of parts all cus they scimped out on the assembly on a little bolt. At least this was all under warranty.

ok so i have a question everyone is talking abou tthis being the tensinor or the chain??? and does it have to be between those years?( mine is making the same noise... only at idol and when i rev up it stops untill i come back down to the 1k rpm lvl again.) i drive an o4 ion redline ... could this be my noise( i always thought it was rockers / lifters where just super lowed/ thought i was loosing oil from somewhere.) the help would be super much appriciated.
