Engine Trouble

OK, so i had to tear my motor apart to change my head gasket. Put everything together and cranked her over and she went on the first try. We had to reset the timing as the marks I made had worn off, so when i turned it on she was really noisey. I didn't know that it was going to be louder then usual so i turned it off right away. I also threw a code which turned out to be a sensor i had forgot to plug into the s/c. I cleared it, double checked everything and now she won't turn over. You can here the starter start to crank, but then just dies. I checked the fuses and didn't see any blown ones, and input would be appreciated.

P0340 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Circuit -PCM
P0341 Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Performance -PCM

those are the codes i an throwing, anyone?

I have to ask before we get started.........did you time the engine correctly??

By the Book.....line up all 3 marks and turn engine over by hand to check the timing

I had my engine apart twice and threw these codes both times. It ended up being that the book was wrong about installing the cam sensor. What i did was took an air ratchet and took sensor out and rotate it 1 notch at a time until it was finally in the correct position.

we followed the book on how to time it properly, and we never touched the sensor. So that is what is throwing us off. We had to rotate the cams 180 degrees to time properly, do you think we have to rotate the sensor?

So you left the cams in the head when you removed it?

OK got it............ Yes the sensor is not positioned right. take those 2x13mm (IIRC) bolts off and rotate the sensor 1 side at a time. bolt the sensir back up. Keep doing this until the car starts fine again.

We'll you all going to laugh at my own stupidity

We were in such a hurry last night to get the damn car done that we only put the bolt for the timing gear hand tight . So the result of that overly loud noise i was paranoid about was the inside teeth of the cam gear that sit in the cam being ripped from thier positions.

Thankfully sunfirejoe has a couple of cam gears sitting around that he has offered me. Such a good guy, if you ever see him post give him a +rep for me

you had me worried,i thought you did the same as me, i initially thought when you turned the key you might have risked ****** the valves.
so what caused you to have to tear down the head in the first place?
