Without LSD, why bother?
Without LSD, why bother?
I am starting to get the modding fever pretty bad now, so I am looking into the future of where I want to take my car. And as of right now, my Cobalt is a one-legger. The second I take a turn, one of my wheels starts to flip out, and make smoke for days. And that is with just stage 2. If I plan on getting other mods to crank out even more power, it seem like i'm just going to burn out my one tire easier and easier, and eventually make my first gear useless.
So I guess my question is, should I even bother trying to make more power, when it will all go to just one wheel?
I have gone to look at some Cobalts with limited slip, but in the end, I am just not stable enough financially to get into a payment for a 2007. So I feel like I should make a choice now. Either hold off on the crazy power mods till I get a car with LSD, or just do it now, and have a true roll car that will never launch well.
I am interested to hear other's opinions, especially others that have heavy mods without LSD.
Also, is it worth just getting a tranny that has LSD? It seems that that would cost a billion dollars to buy/install, but I had been wondering..
Thanks for any advice/info/opinions...

Cost
$1,000.ish Quaife LSD + clutch + labour

Well, quaife has lowered the price of their LSD by about 400 bucks. It now costs something like $1000.
Still, you would have to get it installed and pay more for that, so my recommendation (without having to switch cars) would be to hit up ebay or post a WTB thread in the classifieds here on the forum looking for a tranny with LSD. Depending on the seller you could end up with a good deal on an entire LSD equipped transmission.
edit: OR what victory_red_SS said. lol

Holy crap they did drop the price! Still high, but better than the $1,500 before or running an open diff.

Lower your Boost Percentage in 1st & it Helps!
at first when i saw people on the forums braggin in their sig about having G85 i thought "i don't care about some dumb seats" when i learned about the LSD i felt bad for not havening it
it felt like the end of the world when i looked up how much it would be to get an LSD
I would put an LSD in next. You will need a clutch at some point as well, so as stated above, install both when you have someone in there. I think the LSD is worth they money myself, whether in a payment of just shelling out the cash to get one and install it.
I think he meant 1250 for the LSD itself maybe?

i wouldnt even worry about an lsd until you start auto crossing , i hope you realize your not gonna cut a .5 second off your 1/4 mile time by just having an lsd.
and if you can only gain say .3 of a second in the 1/4 i STILL dont think its worth the 1200 dollars

i want to know
all the guys who got an SS/SC with out the LSD, like myself, were y'all offered the LSD or the "G85" package?
i remember building and pricing my cobalt on Chevrolet.com and i didn't see anything called G85, did y'all?
i go now on Chevrolet.com now and i still don't see anything about the G85 let alone LSD

Ive been hearing just because your car doesnt have recaros doesnt mean you dont have LSD.
And Recaros are another option
Is this correct or false?
thanks
Like Dave said "I have LSD but not the Recaro Seats. IT IS NOT A PACKAGE!!!"
The seats are an option. Period. I'm not paying 2500 for seats that hug me "just a bit tighter". U can buy real racing seats for half that price. Plus, it's fake leather anyway(just like the stock SS seats). Everyone needs to get over the Recaro's, they're not a big deal.

I myself like the inlay look better.
And i agree with the Recaros like you said over piced and are ugly too
Anyway...if u're fat...u can't fit in those seats. They're too skinny to fit a fat-ass back. Enjoy.
That was 05 chief. We're in the present so maybe think about joining us. A lot happens in 2 years. Oh...did I mention they added a new color also. LOL.

I bought a victory red with black on black inserts and I love them......also I felt that black would hide the dirty marks that could stand out on the colored inserts. Just my thoughts. I love my cobalt and I still have the option to give it back in 09' if something happens with the cars by then. Pretty sweet if I do say so myself.
in 06 if you wanted to get the G85, you were gettin the recaros whether you like em or not! They were NOT individual options, they came as a package! And as of (i think)august of 06 G85 did not come with recaros anymore, because they DO NOT make the for the car anymore! (diddnt pass some new safety standards or something)
And I do have the recaros, and am VERY glad I do! Their not the highest quality seats, But you cant even compare them to the regular ones. IMO The quality in those seats are terrible! The support in the recaros is really good!
