exhaust people help.

Hey just a quick question. I am taking my car into the exhaust shop in the next week or so. my car has a 40 series magnaflow muffler now. I hate it it sounds way to "raspy" I am going to purchase a header for sure. other than that the guy says that the rest of the piping should be ok and it would be a wast of money to replace it. I have read a few places that they recomend a 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 pipe all the way back. Should I pay him to replace the whole thing? Should I buy the header and down pipe? Will just the header bolt up to the factory down pipe. Thanks in advance. (Sorry if there is an exhaust section. I couldnt find it.) I want the best sound and performance.
Mods c.a.i, (injin)- stage 2 Gm)

A Magnaflow muffler itself will sound raspy especially if you stomp on it. I have a custom 2.5 in cat-back utulizing a Magnaflow muffler and a Magnaflow resonator. I also have a 2.5 in zzperformance downpipe. That combination sounds great. A nice low tone and is not overwhelmingly loud. The resonator that I have is the exact same one used on the C5 Corvette. That helps a lot with the raspiness.

if thats all the mods you plan on doing, i personally think it would be a waste of money to replace the whole exhaust

Look at my mods in my signature for ideas. They are all warranty friendly. I would get stage 2 before anything else though.
