Exhaust shop cant do 3 inch

i went to my local exhaust shop to price out a 3 inch custom exhaust and they said they cant make the bends over the axles. and he said all i can do is replace the resonator with a straight pipe and replace the muffler. did this happen to you guys with the custom 3 inch with your shops or is my shop not know what there doing?

Probably don't know what they are doing.

Multiple people on here have the 3" altered atmostpheres exhaust. Which was made by an exhaust shop in MD. Zinner is one of them.

I would wait. Vibrant and i think Hahn are coming out with 3" setups, and they will be complete systems not just a catback.

I know a few people have complained about the AAM not fitting the best because it is a 1-off everytime sort of thing. So even though they have a design for it you can have some variance in the bends.

The shop definitely does not know what their doing. I had a custom made 3" mandrel bent installed 2 months ago and I saw the set up. There is plenty of room for the pipe over the axel. And the increase in power was sweet.

I've had 3" exhaust since May 05 and it was never a problem. Make sure you go to a good shop that knows performance and doesn't just weld pipes together for motorhomes and **** like that. be aware though it is going to get loud as heck! Get a good deep muffler nothing ricey that sounds like a fart can. I talked to a lot of people and one guy (Tim Richards) from GM performance who focused the time attack Cobalt SS and they said that it wouldn't be a bad idea to choke down from the 3" pipe into a 2 & 3/4 inch inlet to the muffler for some needed back preasure on the SS/SC model this was recomended for application up to 365 HP. Anything over this power could use full flow 3" b/c the cat alone gives the necessary back presure. The key is not to have back preasure to early in the exhaust. I personally fallowed his instructions to perfection and I must say I am incredibly happy with the gains (very noticible gains) and the sound was very loud but sounds way more mean than any cobalt ive heard.

I was gunna get 3in but my shop said the only way to do it is to to under the axle and by doing that it would not only look like s*it but it would probably scrape so i just put on a magnaflow muff.

3" is completely NOT REQUIRED.

If anything you are simply adding weight to the car for nothing.

2 3/4 is totally overkill for a 2.0L well up to 400 WHP.

The Cat should be a concern, it is the bottleneck.

Does anyone know if the Kits out there like the Monza Catback and the Corsa Touring are both just cat back?

Are there any kits that are Full from the Header back?

They are just catbacks.

There are 3 full exhausts on the way. CTI (custom tubes inc) is the closest to available since they are made to order. Vibrant and Hahn have full exhausts in the works.

AAM said it was a bitch to make the bends around the axle. So maybe the other place doesn't want to try. Obviously it's possible since people have done it.
