exhaust suggestions?

hey guys, I need some help picking out a cat back. I'm getting ready to run an injen cai and a stage 2 soon, if any of that helps. I was leaning towards the megan because I have seen the best prices on that one thus far, and from what I can find on youtube, it sounds sweet.

characteristics I'm looking for (in no specific order):
1. respectable power gains
2. nice tone, not too abrasive, but not too ricey
3. not super expensive
4. would work well with various combos of headers, downpipe, etc later on when I add them

any suggestions are greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

anyone?

Go with the Megan. I believe it is 2.5", which is an upgrade over the GMPP cat-backs.

I'm going to have my muffler shop remove the 2.25" restriction over the rear axle. Then I'm having a 2.5" glass pack or resonator installed with a 2.5"/2.5" offset magnaflow, borla, or dynomax muffler. Haven't decided yet. Stock exhaust is 2.5" except for the axle area, where it necks down. Should be super cheap and I like quite exhaust so I'm finding the quietest high flow options. Glasspacks I've found are great for cutting down sound by I'm toying with using a dynatech muffler for a resonator and a magnaflow or borla rear muffler.

this kid that my friend knows had a cobalt when they first came out. my friend did work on this dude's car and as far as exhaust he said the same exact thing. lol now I'm thinking...

anyone else weigh in? lol I'm looking for good or bad experiences that anyone may have had.

There's quite a few guys who have gone this route. You just have to trust your muffler guy. I trust my guy because he's done exhaust on two of my previous cars. Like I said, I like Magnaflow but to fork out 550 bones for the same piping already in my car and a resonator and muffler is a little high. You can get a cherry bomb for 20 bucks and a magnaflow muffler for 90.

tsudo sounds interesting. i was going to order mandrel bent pipes, vibrant resonator and a magnaflow muffler. and that was going to cost 250. but this is cheaper and all bolt on

Here is another idea. Go to a specialized exhaust shop. Such as Specialized Exhaust in Elk Grove California and have them custom make you an exhaust. It sounds expensive, however it is much cheaper then buying a setup online. I got an entire 3inch exhaust setup, with a magnaflow muffler, and a magnaflow tip, for 350 dollars. I also had them remove my cat and put it in my trunk. I do realize it is illegal for them to do this, but I slipped the guy an extra 20 to do it =P.

My exhaust is EXTREMELY loud, but very very clear. It is not raspy and annoying like a civic is. It sounds more so like a mustang at idle, mixed in with a motor cycle at WOT haha. It's pretty loud however, loud enough to set off car alarms.

The only time it is loud though is under acceleration, for example if your cruising at 50, 60, 70 or 80, which is what I did on my 2k mile road trip back home, it is VERY quite. But if your foot is to the floor, it can be very loud.

Another thing to think about is what size of exhaust your going to go with. If you plan to go big with the car go 3 inch, if you don't plan to go much bigger then stock stay 2.5inch. Also, Mangaflow is the only way to go for a muffler choice on these cars, they simply hands down sound the best mate.

PS: This is all my opinion and my 2 cents, your machine may very =P. <3 Hope this helps!

ok so I've decided to go with a custom set up. I know our stock exhaust is 2.5 and it just necks down to 2.25 at the muffler, so I'm thinking it's just gonna be cheaper to run a new muffler...it seems like it's basically a whole cat-back for half the cost. I know I need a 2.5 inlet, do I need a 2.5 outlet? I don't know **** about mufflers. also, any and all muffler suggestions are welcome. right now I'm only running cai but stage 2 is coming soon if that helps (maybe get a whole custom 3"??)

also, am I crazy to think that the cat-back won't show any real gains? mostly just sound change? it seems like this cars exhaust potential is only seen with a full setup, not just the cat back. maybe I'm just crazy
