FINALLY! The answer to our clutch woes!
i dont pretend to be the best 1/4 mile driver...but lastnight at the track (first time with stg2) i dropped my tire pressure to 23psi....and rolled up to launch at my regular 2000rpm
bogged.....BADLY
next run...launch at 2500
bogged
next run launch at 3000
tiny squeek then bogged
i finally got a good launch feathering my right foot at about 3500
having TOO much traction had me giggling lol
oh and btw.....not one single instance of wheelhop the entire night.
and i have no TD or mounts whatsoever.
try it. youll be surprised.

IE these cars have a very short first gear....which is very capable of breaking loose at ANY point in the rpms.
due to this fact ALOT of heavy launch shifting from first to second, results in a shift into second gear, when first gear hasnt properly been utilised.
Think of it this way.
say your car is geared to do X MPH at the top of 1st gear.
If you spin/hop heavily and your cars speedometer reaches X MPH, you will shift to second. but unfortunately your car isnt really doing X MPH (relative to the ground)
because of the wheelspinning.
and then all of a sudden when you let your clutch out and pour 200+hp at the car in 2nd, almost any clutch will have trouble because its like trying to launch in 3rd gear.
this is a driver adjustment that will definately help solve this issue.
I honestly think about half of the people with clutch issues are experiencing this in full or partial effects.
the adjustment you make is a simple one.
Listen to your launches. get a bit of a chirp going....but make DAMN sure when you reach your redline in first gear your fully engaged with full traction.
you will find the shift to second feels a whole lot different.

DUDE YOU'RE THE EFFIN MAN IF YOU CAN FIND THIS OUT!!!! KEEP US POSTED.
and to clear up one other issue...thursday i made a callto my buddy that is a transmission tech at Baierl Chevrolet in Wexford PA and asked him if there were adjustments for the clutch and he said no. he said they are hydraulic and they have a funny feel to them. sooooo that should clear up one question.

this is true! I go to the track every week and I used to launch at 2500 rpm and it seemed to me like the clutch was slipping. Last Week I tried launching at 4000 and no slipping what so ever and the wheel hop was WAY down too, still a little but not enough to affect traction.
My other thought is this; will this fix work for 2.4's as well? I'm having the same kind of slipping with mine and allthough everyone kept telling me it was a clutch issue I always though it had to be something else without actually knowing what... If you could ask your tech about this it would be really cool.
Thanks for all the hard work and to those cussing at him, stfu, you guys are pathetic. He's doing all this for free... I sure as hell know I wouldn't do anything like this for such a bunch of ingrates.
I have access to TAC which is where this "memo" from GM would come from. I also have access to GMDealerworld. My father is an area service manager. Ill check when I get home. It's on his work laptop.

I don't even care what the TSB is, although it would be nice. Even if there was a memo that would be nice. What I'd really like to know is what was the freakin' fix?? So I can go into my stealership and tell them to replace it so I can finally have some closure on this.
I don't understand how you can have work done on your car and not know what was replaced!?! Especially when you KNOW that other people would be interested. Why else would you get on the net and start a thread "FINALLY! Then answer to our clutch woes!", but then forget what was the fix and not have the paper work.
There are a lot of people on this board depending on an answer.
[RANT]I have to put up with this same crap at work. 3 weeks ago they told me I mightbe qualified for a big raise and I should find out by Sept.1. Yesterday they told me that I'll know before Sept. 14th. Why bother even say anything until you have all the information[/RANT]
