Finally got the Cobalt SS 06

I been reading a lot here in the forum to get some info on the SS before I got it. So today I am driving it around and I keep hearing a thump when I turn the wheel a little bit and let it go. As soon as I let go of the wheel anywhere I turn it I hear a thump. I don't know if it's normal but I want to see if anyone has heard it before or if I can do anything about it. Thanks guys

My first thought is why would you be letting go of the wheel halfway through a turn...That's akin to asking "When I steer into a fire hydrant at 5 miles per hour, I hear this awful crunching noise...what could it be?"

But snide jokes aside, in an '06 you're probably looking at a strut mount.

is not really when I let go of the steering wheel but as soon as I turn the other direction.

it's the intermediate steering shaft, there is a TSB out on it. if your car is under warranty they'll replace it for free

reading your other post that you cut your muffler off? That will fail all inspections, possibly cause your warrenty work to go out the door and kill your resale value. So i hope you are prepaired to pay for the work to be done on your car. But yes, any GM dealership will work...try and find a chevy dealership though, they will know more about the car

Well I have the muffler with me so I guess I am putting it right back on lol. I did think it sounded really loud, but I have heard other cars sound louder. But when I keep it on the low rpms it rumbles nicely. I mainly took it off cause I didn't like how little it sounded. So I guess I should put it back on lol?

if they saw that he cut his muffler off they might just kill his exhaust warranty. they would still fix the recall issue
