i dont think a timing chain would be doing that. and a heat shield would be more of a tinny noise. but from the video it sounds more like a valve train issue like lifters maybe. do you notice the noise increasing with rpms? or is it a steady noise? im thinkin supercharger/valvetrain areas...

we had a 2.2 come in a few days ago that was run with no oil and it sounded similar right before the engine locked up. but it wouldnt even rev up like yours did..

The first thing to do is stop reving the **** out of it. Personally if your car is sounding like that the Second thing I would do is PARK IT. The third thing I would do is call road side and have them take it to a different dealer. That is not right and from what I can tell it sounds like maybe the timing chain tensioner could be shot and the chain is flopping around in there which could result in bigger problems if you break it like bent push rods or valves. The second thing could be a faulty oil pump and oil is not getting to the top end so your lifters are sticking.

Again I cannot stress this enough DO NOT DRiVE THE CAR ANY MORE UNTIL IT IS FIXED.

Here is something else you could do. take a long screw driver and when the noise returns take the screw driver and put it to your ear and touch the other end to different areas of the engine where you think the noise could be coming from and you should be able to pn point it like a stethescope.

if i were you i would have the dealer sign some sort of paper that says what they have been saying nothing is wrong and they well not look at it, then take it to a real michanic and have them charge the dealer for there stupidy

I am quite amazed at how many people have problems with there dealer. I have taken my car to three dealers and all gave good service. Only one did something foolish but they owned up and are going to fix the problem.

If that were happening to my car and a dealer told me that, I would become un-c*nted on their ass in front of everyone.

Actually. I was at Jack C the other day and I was getting that cold weather clunking in the front end so I decided to have them check it and I also showed them the TPS on it. So they say sure we'll have our guy check it then when I go to pick up my car they tell me it's my CAI knocking so I tell the guy I doupt it was that seeing it has been on the car since I bought it and it did not do that last winter. So then he tries to say it is the ITD and I say well it would make the engine mounts stiffer and yes that could be it but I really think not as the sound was coming from the front end linkage. Well he just stopped talking. I really already new what it was and just really wnted them to take a look to make sure nothing was broken that I might of missed.

haha...I'll chalk one up for me.

after i had this noise i took it to my gm dealer and asked one of the guys at the service desk to take a look at her ( right out the door) and he said no, that it would have to make that noise when it came. i told him that it probably wount becuase everytime i go to the dealer they say its fine

first! anyone know what this problem is?
second! advice for the dealer!
my advice is take it to the dealer ,that sounded like mine when the timing chain tensionier got loose they have a tsb about this make sure they change the tensioner and the chain.
when to the dealer twice because of this!

redcobalt07 - Highly unlikely, it would be much much more likely that the supercharger coupler is bad and needs to be replaced which is a very good possibility. If you are not tossing any codes I would go with timing chain or s/c coupler, MAYBE if you are really unlucky a bad cat but I doubt it as you would be seeing higher boost levels and it sounds as if it's in the engine bay area up front towards the s/c.

a bad cat would be a huge spike in boost levels as it would be causing more of a restriction the the airflow of the engine. aka lots of back pressure to build up the psi.

dont let these guys get you all worked up on the OMFG ur engine is toast! you would be throwing codes left right an center. Unfortunatley there is no code for a broken coupler in the supercharger. but that rattle/grinding noise is normailly that or the chain. but if the car still runs and boosts pretty well fine with no codes i say coupler. the chain would probably through a random misfire cel at the very least.

Its either a s/c coupler or timing chain tensioner. Use the screw driver to the chin method and find out where the noise is coming from. Both are easy fixes and pretty cheap.
