G85 Package...do it?

Hey guys,

I'm picking up my Cobalt SS S/C within the next few weeks or so, and I've got a few different options. On the lot right now, there's one that has XM and OnStar, no sunroof...it's black with black interior. Then, at another dealership, there's a black one with black interior and a sunroof (along with xm and onstar).

FINALLY, I found ANOTHER black one with the sunroof, XM, Onstar, AND the G85 package.

Is the G85 package really worth the extra cash? Do any of you have it? How do you like it? Also, could you snap some pics of the seats?

The dealership here told me that the one with the G85 package was located within 500 miles and that they could have it delivered here if I was planning on buying it...

What should I do?!?!

Price wise the G85 is well worth it, rough estimates put the seats and LSD seperate at almost twice the cost from the factory

G85 Package ... Just Do It!

I have a black G85 SS/SC delivered June 2 and now about 3500 miles, and I am very happy with the car overall and ecstatic about the Quaife LSD. And very pleasantly surprised with the Recaro seats. There is a very slight wheel hop, but compared to the RSM Supercharged Cavalier the Cobalt replaced (which I braced with strut bars fore and aft and an underbody frame brace) the hop is barely noticeable. If you are getting a supercharged vehicle, keep your self happy and get an LSD. Quaife happens to be one of the very best, comparable to Torsen in quality and endurance, and, unlike Torsen, made for compact FWD cars. I could not imagine getting the Cobalt w/o the Quaife and I am quite happy I did. -- laborsmith

Wow, thanks guys! Those seats look sweet too!

How comfortable are they? Also, can you still make them go up and down like the leather-appointed seats that the regular S/C comes with? I noticed with the stock seats you can make them lower if you don't like sitting that high up. Are these positioned one way only (as far as height)?

Thanks for the info guys. You've all been very helpful!

hey, a quick question. is there a difference in feeling to the recarro's and stocks? or is it just that it says recarro? cause i know when i went to the dealer they didnt have one with G85 but the seats felt awesome anyway.

Sorry, I have no idea...I just found the pic for you in the gallery and posted it. However, I should probably get acquainted with these seats as well since I will be sitting in them within a few days once my 2006 comes in!!! Can't wait!!!

Recaro Seats

The seats go up and down, there is a lever on the side you use.

The seats are much more comfortable than I thought they would be, and I like the material used for the seats themselves. What that material is I have no idea but I like the way it helps hold you in. The side bolsters are absolutely great. As I have written in other posts, I got the G85 for the Quaife and am pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the seats turned out to be. Hope this helps. -- laborsmith

A dealership here told me they found the car i wanted. (arrival blue, Sunroof, 5spd) but it would cost $330 dollars to get it shipped. I went to Chevy.com and located the same car.(they gave me the vin in the paperwork) it was from a dealership 26 miles away! $330 dollars for a half hour drive. Screw that.

I say go see if you can find where the one with the seats are located and make sure it isnt across the street.

That's very true man, thanks for the heads up. However, I've searched for the cars on the website and they always say "nothing located within 100 miles." They said this one was within 500 miles...

I wanna search across the whole state, but I guess it won't let me do that

if you wanna know how comfy the seats are go to a saturn dealer , they are standard in the redlines

but hands down , if your gonna do anything performance wise , you need the LSD

I was one of the first on this forum to have the G85 package and it is worth every penny I HIGHLY recommend it and the Recaro's are the best!

I have an SS/SC that doesn't have anything except the sunroof(yeah I know boring right?) Don't need OnStar(got AAA roadside service that's better then OnStar)... and I am an MP3 nut so I don't need XM either, not in my car long enough each passing day to enjoy the benefits anyways. I perfer the red insert seats over the recaros. IMO the recaros don't seem as comfy as the stockers. The material feels slightly uncomfortable in long rides. I sat in an ION Redline with Recaros. They weren't my cup of tea. Also, for me LSD isn't worth it all that much.

Just buy some mounts that prevent wheel hop that were listed on here, couple hundred less and your rolling no problems. IMO, LSD isn't worth having unless you really have something powerful. My goals and ambitions won't take me past 300WHP so... it all depends. Keep that extra cash flow for performance and style.

I've spanked a few G85's from a dig in my non-LSD SS no problems. It's all in the launch and if you can drive a stick... I will admit the seats look nicer but they don't hold any more comfort then the stockers but they will plant you in better. Just your preference.
