Gas Octane

What octane would you reccommend for a s/c Cobalt with stage 2? Is 93 enough?

93 is definately enough. Don't go lower though, as the car requires Premium fuel only! That is all I run, because that's the highest I can get where I'm at.

91's the highest we have out here, but it will do just fine. Anything over 90 is considered premium as far as GM says, and they say you must use premium on Stage II.

Where I am from, there is
87 - Regular
89 - Mid-grade
93 - Premium

I go with 89, as I read on my old 2.2 somewhere that it is the recommended fuel, as is 5W-30 for oil if I am not mistaken.

Your car might be different, and I might be wrong! But if you have Stage 2 then I would go with 93 just to reduce, I believe its called "combustion"

Detonation I think you mean...combustion is good. It's how our engines make power.

I run nothing but 93 in mine. Tried 89 and thought the car was going to die on me. It just wouldn't hardly run at all. Tried 94 and saw no improvement over 93, so I stick with 93.

I've been doing 93, there are a few places around that got 94 but not worth the drive for each fillup. I am thinking about using 87 though since I will be trading her in anyhow.

Yea I think I can only get 91 too at Costco and I forgot to add that to the poll. If there was any way to change that...
BTW will 91 octane be enough for a Stage 2 Cobalt s/c?

I run 91 (highest I can go) out here, but next time I go to the track, before I leave the track I'm fillin it up with 105 unleaded racing gas!!!! HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!! Then with that gas in it I'm gettin it chassis dynoed! Can anyone say 260+ whp?!?!?

*EDIT if anyone knows will our cars run on LEADED gas? If they do I'm goin with 118 leaded instead, then 280 whp!!!

According to the manual, it says to run premium. I've been running 93 or 94 since I got the beast.

I wouldnt run leaded fuel it clogs the Cat Converter and O2 sensor
lead deposits you might be able to get away with a 50:50 dutch load 91/race gas but i would ony do a couple of gallons each not a whole fill up.

If you read I said it was either 118 leaded OR 105 UNLEADED, which obiously I'm going with the unleaded 105.

Putting regular octane into a CobaltSS is like banging a supermodel in the dark.
You still get laid but miss out on the best part of the ride

I wish I could get 93 octane. BTW what exactly is detonation and does it cause any long term damage? What exactly does the car knocking me too? Thanks...

detonation is when the fuel/air mixture explodes before the spark plug fires. basically its like hitting the piston with a sledge hammer, because the is two different combustions on two different areas of the pistons, so yes there is definatly damage when detonation happens, now your motors not gonna blow up as soon as it starts, but if it does happen get higher octane gas ASAP!
