I think most people recommend the copper stuff.

i used the black on my oil pan and the copper on everything else under pressure like throttle body, bov, wastegate, etc

use either the gm engine sealant or get the right stuff you want to use a thick sealant that will hold up to the vibrations the vibrations will cause the excess sealant that is inside the pan to break off but either of those i listed will more then do the job

I saw the same thing. I used the black the first time and i have some leakage, so Im gonna re-seal it and I just dont feel like doing it a third time lol.

the right stuff works well i use it at the shop all the time. Just hope you never have to pull the pan back off lol

I just got some at the dealership. The correct stuff that the service manual calls for.
PN 12378521 wich in their computer crossed over to GM#97720043 It calls it "Gasket Silicone"
Canada PN 88901148

The closest part store equivalent to GM engine sealant is Ultra Grey.

This. Either the ultra black or ultra grey for oil applications like that. The copper is more for exhaust heat stuff, hence the 700 degree rating. Like an EGR seal or something. Not necessary on the oil pan.
