Gen 4 Lifters: Closer Look

As the title implies, here is a guts view of the gen 4 lifters. They are definitely redesigned, the spring is definitely stiffer, it is a two piece design now internally with an internal snap ring to hold them together. This was brought up in the "why camshafts do not perform well" thread so I thought it would be better to start a new thread vs. post on that one. Also, the oil feed hole is just slightly larger on the new lifter, and the top rocker/follower feed hole is smaller. Seems like the lifters would be less likely to collapse, but hard to say how much better they are than previous generations.

And the internals:

Crap, will repost internal pics as for some reason they are not full size.

Someone with cams should throw these in and see if they pick up any power

Does anyone know if they use the same lifters on the intake and exhaust? I know the new motors have vvl on the intake cam which can be switched between 4mm lift and 10mm lift.

if they are different and the exhaust side fits, we should just be able to use all exhaust sides. I would assume they are all the same. The lash shouldnt change. That might actually be why they made them stronger (if in fact they are), because they were dealing with varying lift and were finding the old ones werent cutting it lol

If I'm understanding what's happening correctly it seems that anyone building enough cylinder pressure would benefit from upgrading their lifters. So I'd think anyone running enough boost, even on stock cams, should see a gain. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong lol

Can you elaborate? They still collapse like the stock ones?

So running them is essentially burrowed time until they fail? So it's either solids or some how figure out how to run a physically bigger hydro lifter on the exhaust side that won't bleed as easily?

Thank you. I figure if they help or not, it's not going to hurt to have the revised part in my build.

How do you know this? Just wondering for my own education. Sure the internal size isn't different concerning the diameter, but how have you tested to see they collapse?
