Question Getting Knock during shifts!

I have noticed lately that I get knock during shifts.

1st to 2nd is the worst. Sometimes I see 2.0 when I shift from 1st to 2nd.

2nd-3rd and 3rd-4th are pretty much the same 0.7 or so.

Anyone else have this happening? I'm thinking maybe plugs? What could it be?
I don't remember seeing any knock ever but recently this has changed.

No CEL. The car runs fine it's just the aeroforce shows knock in between shifts and I don't remember seeing knock during shifts. I don't think a dealership can help. It's either the plugs or something in the tune. I don't know.

I don't trust any dealerships with the car. They wouldn't even know where to start.
I would get the old "we don't see a CEL so...."

You are right cobi.

ahhh yah I see you are using the Interceptor. Ive heard one explanation for it is the torque of the engine slamming back down when you left off the gas for that split second is causing the knock sensor to go off.

Maybe try tightening up your torque dampner.

Yeah, couldn't you be getting false knock? If you slam 2nd the motor is going to move alot more from the torque then in 2-3 and 3-4. I would bet that is what it is. When does it do it? Every 1-2 shift or just when you rip 2nd? If it is just when you rip it try running it up higher but ease it into 2nd.

I knew I heard something like that before. It's called phantom knock right?

My torque brace is set at 14. I should just set it to 12 or something. Good call on that. It might be that.
I have been looking to tighten that thing anyway.

Hey BriantheLion26. It happens randomly. Being easy and getting on it. 1st-2nd is the worst when it comes to knock.
After the shifts I don't see any knock anymore.

if it shows up and goes away in a split second its false knock. Real knock usually stays around longer

I had mine at 12mm since the day I got it, it is prolly a little tighter actually, i moved it once i had it at 12, so maybe 11-11.5. I don't feel any vibs at all. Soon as you start the car, maybe, thats it.

Yah just tweak with it, take it for a run and see what it does, then adjust accordingly. Id imagine you may still get some false knock but it shouldnt be as high as 2

Mine does this also, ive noticed its worse the higher the IAT is

Ive worked on a redline recently with a 2.8 60lbers and full exhaust with cobra heat exchanger with no motor mounts that did not do this at all. I uploaded my same timing tables to it and it didnt do it.

I think its a internal cylinder head heat issue and that lower IAT with full exhaust will most likely resolve the issue

It could be false knock. I would be more scared getting knock during WOT.

If I get knock after I tighten the damper then I need to keep digging.

Yeah my IAT2s have been pretty high lately. I know 2 is a lot and that's what scares me. I'm hoping it's just false considering it only happens in between shifts. I need a summer and a winter tune.

You still have stock cooling? If so what IAT2s do you see with the 2.9?

Yeah man stock cooling. That's what's killing my performance.

I see IAT2s around 115-120 during normal driving.

I need a bigger H/E like yesterday.

Mine doesn this too. Its retarding timing and make it feel like my car is getting pulling back. But I got used to it, I dont hear it knockings so w/e. But I think its the tune because I got colder plugs and it still does it. I have been hitting 5.0 in some cases. But thats the AZ heat we deal with!

You need dual-pass too. I think that will be my next mod, dual-pass + cobra possibly.

really man? it wasn't doing that when we tuned the car. But let me know what you want to do if you wanna come through to fix your tune. But it sounds like that phantom knock, and if you're still running your stock mounts, they could be pretty worn and be causing that. I wish you could run a scan for me and send the logs, but what can you do. I used to get it bad btwn 1-2 til I did the mounts now it's all good

Well i'm glad i'm hearing i'm not the only one. I guess hot temps play a roll too.

My next mod will be a bigger H/E and hopefully the dual pass.

I like the C/A one but its just so much. Plus I hear its on back order too. I want to do the dual-pass asap but it seems like a pain in the ass to take the blower and manifold off.

Yeah maybe just a bigger H/E will do the trick.

Anyone think a 25 shot of nitrous would be worth it? Even just for the cooling alone?

Probably wouldn't hurt. Talk to yellowcobaltss05, he has nitrous set up, 50 shot I believe on a 2.7". See what kind of IATs he is seeing.

Yeah stock mounts have taken a bit of a woopin. I'm going to tighten up the Ingalls and see what happens. An update to the tune would be great. I'm going to Florida next week but when I get back I could head down one Saturday or Sunday whatever works.

I'm curious how much that helps. Well a 50 shot helps everything, I wonder what a little dry 25 shot would do.
