GM Stage 2 belt and ZZP Question.......

Hey y'all,
Just want to make sure I'm not missing somethng here. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on ZZP's Stage 3 kit for my Balt and I'm planning on going with the 2.8 pulley option.

Now, I have read all the posts that the belt that comes with the ZZP's kit is not the best and it is recommended to go with the actual GM Stage 2 belt. So looking on the ZZP site, I see in the list of parts once you select the LSJ Cobalts that ZZP does show they sell the GM Stage 2 belt for $44.99. And when looking at the list of parts that come with the Stage 3 kit, it says GM serpentine belt. Now, in this list of parts for the kit, the words "serpentine belt" are clickable, and when you do it takes you to the GM Stage 2 belt I mentioned above for $44.95. So what I gather, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the GM Stage 2 belt does come with the kit...???

So if this is the case, how is getting the "ACTUAL" GM belt any better as the one that comes with the kit seems to be the "ACTUAL" belt??????

Just wondering.......

I got the stage 3 kit with the stage 2 belt.. First time around when installing everything, the belt didn't fit..... tried again couple days later belt didn't fit....... tried again and it fit...... idfk what happened....... All thought I can say a lot of people have had to order the belt from CED. I would jsut go ahead and try the belt that comes with the kit, if that doesn't fit, run your stocker for a couple days and order the stage 2 belt directly from CED.

Take some advice from someone whose been there. The belt that comes with the kit is a pos. It will start too chunk off after a couple thousand miles. If you're not running the kit then don't give advice. They sent me a genuine stage 2 belt after I complained and sent pics. Op I'd just get the oversized tensioner and stick with the stock belt.

Thanx for the info son. What I can't understand is why/how is the belt that comes with the kit worse than one you would get separate?? From everything I can see, IT IS the genuine GM Stage 2 belt you would get if you would order it from the dealer or anybody else. I'm just wondering what the difference between the kit belt and an ordered belt is as they both seem to be the same GM belt????

Not sure but same thing happened to me , the belt that came with the kit was garbage , lasted me about 3 weeks and big pieces started flying off. Sent pics to zzp and they sent me a new gm belt and never an issue since !

I did the same thing and they sent me a real gm belt with the tag on it (packaging that serpentine belts normally come with). The one they send with the kit is just thrown in the box no tag no nothing. I was parking my car in my gf's garage and she was like your car smells "skunky and rubbery." when diagnosing the smell I found it to be the belt and then saw chunks missing from it. Funny thing is when I emailed and sent zzp pics I got the "I've never seen that before" response. I still love zzp

I've heard that the oversized tensioner needs modded to fit. Anyone who is running it, Is this true?

I'm not running it but yes it does need to be modded. You need to grind away part of the bracket so the oversized tensioner's bigger diameter can clear the bracket itself.

Well I have the s2 belt on my ZZP S3 setup, i'm on a 2.9, but with 5k on the kit now I still don't have problems and belt looks new! They may have fixed it, or had a bad batch of belts? Either way if it does give you problems they will replace it no worries.

If you order a kit from ZZP and have an issue, we'll take care of it.
The stage 2 belt was made to work with a 3.1" pulley. If you go smaller than that, especially 2.8, 2.7, you should have an OS tensioner too or our adjustable tensioner (then stock belt).
