GM Tech question (Chilton or Motors)

Any GM Techs know what the installation of a full GM Stage 2 kit calls for? I don't want the dealer to charge me 4-6 hours of labor for a 2-2.5 hr job. I need proof of the information you provide me. Thanks everyone!

i installed it myself then got the reflash, still have warranty as well... when i got quote they told me 3.5 to 4 hrs for labor

When I inquired about prices at the dealers around me I was quoted 2 hrs for install.

Call around.

Stage 2 requires them to remove the stock pulley, and most of the dealers are not equipped to do it easily. 2 hours would have them rushing through it. They have to do the pulley removal, hub install, pulley install with the supercharger off the car, route the stage 2 belt in... replace the injectors with the 42#ones and then reflash.

Yeah everytime I walk into this dealer they're like "What is a GM Stage 2 kit??" Like they have no ******* clue lol.

to pull the pulley dont you have to remove the supercharger? I think that is why its so "labor intensive". I would as said above, suggest installing the parts yourself, then just getting the flash done at the dealer. Rallyracer did that with his SC stage 2 kit and I did that with my stage 1 tc/ss install.

careful, some new gm stage 2 flashes keep the 6500rpm limiter and not the 7000rpm limit

What? Can't be... 7K is the redline for the Stage 2.

Well, needless to say, I was calling around (as well as asked my g/f who is a warranty administrator) and she said, if I install the Stage 2 kit it WILL void my warranty. If I still had an existing factory warranty it would not void it, but I have an extended warranty and the addition of the kit will void that warranty.

This sucks, all of this time and effort to get a stage kit and keep my warranty has now been thrown to ****.

What do I do now...

I might as well just get a refund of my GMPP extended warranty and just go for it. But if anything DOES go wrong, I need this protection.

I had a warranty administrator from the extended warranty try to pull that BS on me as well. After I threatened to take them to court for not doing warranty work on a car with a GM kit that states it will not void any warranty they never gave me any trouble again.

P.S. - The kit itself is NOT covered under the warranty, but any other repairs SHOULD STILL BE COVERED. The installation should not take more than 2.5 hours for a tech that knows what he is doing. As far as injector and SC installation that should take no more than 30 minutes. The hardest part is the pulley hub installation which requires a press or hub removal/installation tool which can take an hour to hour and a half to do. Then they charge 30 minutes labor for the flash.

my gf talked to gmpp directly and They said if the car originally came with the kit then YES I would still keep my warranty, but I am adding the kit, so therefore it voids the extended warranty. Where does it say it will not void any warranty? I would LOVE to shove that in their face! Please tell me more of your story

well it is a gm kit and gm warranties it...at least that i wat i thought and they haven't taken my warranty yet...

The whole marketing of the GM's Stage II kit (And the higher price of it) was mainly to allow you to upgrade without voiding the warranty if installed by a GM dealer. I don't see anything in my GMPP's terms saying that GM approved parts would void anything. I can understand if you were getting ZZP's or OTTP's kit, but all the part numbers your getting are GM.

but OP has an "EXTENDED" warranty. those have TONS of fine print. It wont void the standard warranty that came on the vehicle no, but the extended I could see. What year car is yours an 06? then no 5yr 100k mile power train.. you could do it at a different dealer and not tell anyone, then never ever mention it when it goes in for service. I dont see the tech knowing unless they know what to look for or there is some catastrophic failure and they dig into it.

That's what I'm thinking. Get it installed at another dealer. Then if something happens, take it to my normal dealer and they'll just look and be like "OH he has an extended warranty we have to cover it."

Monday I'm getting it installed.

ugh people...

OP has an EXTENDED WARRANTY

The stage kit keeps the stock warranty no problem. Extended warranties have all that bs of fine print and stuff. Usually even though it could be a GM extended warranty its run through a 3rd party company. So it very could not cover the stage kit. I dont think it would actually. I found that out when I called Mazda to get an extended warranty on my ms3, then I was transfered to a 3rd party company that ran mazda's ext. warranty and decided not to buy it because it wasnt actually a mazda warranty.

Like stated your best bet is to install else where and never tell anyone.
