Going Dual Pics

I recently decided to go dual and have been making some progress, i can't wait to get a pair of mufflers and tips on there. I had to make a special bracket for the crossover muffler and need to make brackets to hold up the right side. Hoping it will create a nice throaty tone once its finished and fully welded.

As you can see some of its still just tack welded in place so i could drive around a little before getting the rest of the finishing parts. Yes it is 3" to 2 duals, and it may be redundant, but i am hoping it will make a nice unique sound and look good from behind

you're doing 3" with 2 pipes? say bye bye to performance! hopefully the sound is worth it though, good luck, and keep us updated.

actually it goes back to the pipe is only as big as its smallest point 3", Anyway the area of two 3" pipes only equals to a 4.25" pipe, not 6" as some people would think.

right, which is HUGE! it's like trying to spit a standard size spitball out of a garden hose. will never work. it may just dribble out the end, but it won't shoot across the room like it would out of a straw. same principle. that air will lose all it's velocity i bet.

500hp camaros run 3" pipes...not ~250hp cobalts.

its gonna sound super raspy cause there wont be enough air...

well, its a 3" single to dual 2.5", thats only crossover muffler i could get at a good price. Its a flowmaster 80 series muffler, i'm still waiting on some flanges to replace some of the tack welds so it might take a couple days for sound clips or drive bys. Also waiting for my 2 APC 2.5" oval straight through mufflers, when this things done its going to have 2 resonators and 3 mufflers.

about losing power? its all about whats closer to the manifold, i have a weapon-r header and i quickly goes to 3" after the flex pipe where the flow is needed and i have 2 short resonators, 1 14" long magnaflow 3" straight through 4" outer can, and 1 12" long summit racing 3" straight through right after the bend. 3" FTW!

After the axle is where i double it up into 2 2 1/2" pipes coming from the magnaflow, which doesn't effect the performance as much (i still have yet to test it ofcourse).
Compared to most other's custom duals, this is the part that differs, most do Y piping without the dual muffler. The Y piping may create better flow, but it usually ends up with one longer pipe than the other, and i did not want this bias. Also, I wanted to use the crossover to not just create equal length, but produce a unique throaty resonating sound rather than the loud demonic farting.

buh-bye torque!

superchargers need a little backpressure, not a free flow like a turbo.

I waited and waited for my exhaust flanges to come in the mail, but they still didn't come by the weekend. so i just used some crappy used ones that i had leftover just to get it done because my mufflers had already come.

I think it went great with, fitment is awesome and tips are within millimeters relative to eachother's position. The only thing i don't like is the resonation of the 80 series Flowmaster Muffler, at full throttle it vibrates and resonates out with a harsh ricey tone (not too unbearable, but hoping it will go away after breaking it in). At low rpms and cruising it sounds supreme and has a nice growl.

I'll try and get some sound clips, but i need to get ahold of another video camera, mine is so shitty you can't decypher any tones.

yeah, i used the dual exit cutout. "How To" posted by Psykostevo. I'm going to try and plastic weld and paint to make it look less obvious.
