Haven's build thread!

Well guys... I think the time has come for me to do a official build thread since I'm planning quite a dramatic change for my car over the next several months. But first as she sits now!

TVS 1320 2.9 pulley
80lb injectors
Ottp return style fuel system
LSJion ported head
supercharger stuff

and picks!

Ok so future plans....Ottp's turbo swap
Definitely some new rims and some suspension upgrades.

I'd like to add that this car is being purpose built for my all around enjoyment, I'm aiming for a clean overall fit and finish and I'll be doing things like seeking out every single rattle and finding a way to eliminate them permanently! I absolutely love this car, I love the fact that nobody takes it seriously, and even if you drag them by a bus length they'll retort with "it's still just a cobalt," which feeds my bug to get more out of this car

Would like some advice on suspension set-up because I'm considering goin coilover instead of koni's with xyz's, anyone have any input?

damn man cant wait to see how this thing performs when your done with it!! as far as suspension goes it all depends what your looking at getting out of it. i do know if you go with coilovers youll be set no matter what. i am making 357whp and 375wtq and i hate how the car rides sometimes but it handles like a dream and at the power levels it doesnt flinch at all. so you got my vote for coils lol

Thx for the replies everyone! Yea the wheels definitely have to go before spring, I've been on the hunt for some lnf rims but can't find any atm

I'm also leaning towards the bc coils since I read a lot of good things about them. I just want to be able to actually put the power down, I'm aiming for around 400ish hp and I think I'll be done pushing the car then till something blows lol, not trying to be the fastest out there, I just want to be clean and I want to **** people off

Haven- never had coils but do have yyz/fe5 up front and yyz/koni in back and like it a lot. If you don't have good trans mounts and rear cabs I would spend the money on powells stuff instead of the coils, that's my advice.
Good luck on the build and be careful how much you spend on it.

Yea I'm trying to do this right the first time, I'm just wondering if the koni's can handle the power I'm shooting for, aiming for around 400+whp with the set-up I'm planning

They're plenty, definitely get the Powell mounts first.
I would actually get the Koni's up front and FE5 shocks in the rear if budget's an issue, otherwise Koni all around.

Or high quality coilovers

Gutting the rear helps with rattles lol
I also took off my dashboard (and rear deck as well) and used a mix of foam tape, duct tape, rubber bits, wrapping everything that could touch anything (back of the radio, vents etc) and that solved a great deal of rattling.

Sounds like a ghetto way to do it but its cheaper than dyna mat crap, lighter, and does the job for rattle reducage. Made being in and driving the car 8.62 times more enjoyable.

Well I guess it's time for a small update, so I've grabbed a few things since I started this build, some things I found used for extreme cheap so I'm very happy

Lets start off with black door panel inserts, these here babiesName: IMG_06261_zpsvxjjapzs.jpg

I've already go these installed and MAN... These are sooo much nicer than the yellow door panels! For starters...they don't show dirt!!! I'm so freaking happy I found these on ebay lol. While I had them out I went ahead and replaced the stock speakers with some much nicer sound ordnance speakers, I just need to replace my rears and maybe my woofer with a shallow 10 inch or something. Now... if only I had some seats to go with my theme......

Oh, what have I found here?! Got them off someone locally on facebook for the poultry sum of 160$!!! They were a bit beat up but I'm planning to take em to a upholstery shop to have them refinished, I figured even if it cost around 150$ each seat to get both of these seats restored, I still saved a good bit compared to buying online and having them shipped.

I also picked up a set of used brembo calipers, planning to disassembled them then take and get them and a couple rear calipers powder coated a nice dark blue color, hope it won't look to ricey lmao[IMG][/IMG]

Then Black Friday Came.

Well I'm considering the KW variant 1's or maybe 2's but those are more likely far more than I need

If it works it works, I did the same thing with my maxima, those little things significantly improve the quality of the ride

E85 is definitely happening, as for cams I'm leaning towards ottp's stage 2 turbo cams but that's a way's down the road. I'm hoping to snap up another lsj head and send it out to "The" LSJIon for one of his epic port jobs, and possibly machined for oversized valves....I hope I can keep my self sensible but I've been thinking more on the merits of going with solid lifters as well since my car won't really be a DD anymore.

Also got around to installing this baby:

Along with the front and rear ottp rotated trans mounts! Car feels amazingly different, the new mounts solved many of the weird vibrations and knocks I was having, I'm totally blown away now. It even felt like it was hooking better, definitely a lot less wheel hop when accelerating. My old Upper trans mounts was almost totally done, it was so soft and spongy I'm amazed it was still holding on.

I agree Snail_SS, I was having an issue where if I gave it to much gas in first to quickly the car would violently jerk left, that jerk is gone now.

I'm wishing I went ahead and installed my ZZP coils while I was at it, but I'm trying to save those for when I go turbo.
