head work?

Is it okay to do head work like a mild cam and upgraded valve train without changing pistons and rods and boring the cylinders

Yes.

I have a brand new upgraded valve train and ported head with the bottom end untouched.

I have low miles though. On a high mileage car, I would at least get everything checked out while the head is off.
