Help. Funny noise...
Help. Funny noise...
Ok. So today I got in my car, turned it on, and waited for it to warm up before driving. Normal.
I'm sitting there, and hear a really high pitched whine... Over the noise of the radio. So I mute the radio, and yes, it is the car.
I figured it might just be cold, but it kept going even after it was warm and I was driving. It seems to stop/and or get lower in pitch when I slow down.
I've never noticed it before...
Help. I go home tomorrow, and will be driving 5 hours, so if this is something big I need to know ASAP.
My car is stock, and it's an 06 with 8,000 miles on it... If that helps anything.
EDIT
So, I noticed yesterday, that my boost gage was pretty much not working at all. heh. While at idle, or just driving at a constant speed, it was about -20 or so. When I gave it some gas, it got up around 0, with a max of 3.
It's going into the dealer on Wednesday.

i know where i am in canada,we already have hi tthe -30 mark and its ******* cold lol.no matter how long i let mine run for that supercharger just whiiiiiinnnnnneeeeeeessssssss
for a good half hour till she warms up lol. once i'm driving her you can here it whining but eventually it calms down and goes back to normal lol
good luck
Yeah seems like to me its your belt slipping, does it still do it when you drive for about 4 -5 miles, because if not then its probably your belt and you'll probably need a new one, or needs some adjustments, but its not something you gotta do right now you can get it done when you get back home. Other than that not real sure, G/l though.
how dirty is the coolant? the viscosity ( mis-spelled lol ) might be finished and might need to change your fluids ....
k thats same as mine, 8,000 miles though belt shouldnt be worn down, maybe the tensioner is loose and the belt is whinning, might need tightened up, humm tryin to think, wish I was there would be alot easier lol, but im almost sold its your belt
look at your boost gauge when you gas it

Easy way to tell if it is the belt, spray wd40 on it, if it stops, belt, if not check elsewhere...
Question though, do you have any tape recorders, ipods, or any thing else with unshielded speaker wires, because belive it or not, unshielded speaker wires pick up our high voltage ignition systems and will transmit noise through speakers.

YOUR BOOST GAUGE WHEN STOPPED AT IDLE WILL READ ALMOST ALWAYS THE SAME PRESSURE, WHEN ACCELERATING THE PRESSURE WILL CHANGE BUT IT WILL BE CONSISTENT UNLESS YOUR MASHING IT ALL THE TIME LOL
WHEN IDLING SEE IF YOUR PRESSURE IS CONSTANT OR IF ITS DROPPING. I HAD A PIN HOLE IN 1 OF MINE AND PRESSURE WAS DROPPING TILL I REPLACES A HOSE AND IT WAS FINE

hah hah sorry about that, i was at work at the time and the systems we use only respond to caps lock on so you cant change from lower to upper case lol.....really i wasnt yelling at anybody lol. i get that everytime i post from work hah hah
Was your A/C on. I doubt it cause you said it was like -30, but sometimes my fan for my A/C or what not makes noise. I wouldn't consider it high pitched, but you might wanna check that. Turn your fan on and off and see if that helps the noise.
