Help with HPT

so about a month ago, me and 3 other cobalts got tuned. one of the cobalt guys being rage915, you might of seen his thread about him getting a bad tune. anyways, my car has been throwing misfire codes, i have had 4 already in the past 2 or 3 weeks. well today i went over to rage915's house to get my tune pulled from my car to see if maybe i got a bad tune as well. ive also taken into consideration that misfires can be caused my plugs, coils etc. but i dont believe its any of that. i figure if one person got a bad tune then im sure the tuner didnt do so well with my car either. so as we are trying to get my tune pulled from my car, it goes through the first 2 steps but then stops and fails on step 3 which would be some security step. i guess to validate the vcm or something along those lines. so we try a couple dozen times and it still doesnt work. we keep getting the same fail error so i ask some of my friends, what can cause that? and they all tell me the same thing which is to make sure my key in on the "on" position and to make sure only the editor part of hpt is open. we then check to see if everything is connected properly and that everything is right and try again. still nothing... then we try it on rage915's balt and it works. i guess i can assume it has something to do with my car.
so my question to you guys, who have dealt with hpt, is why isn't letting me pull my tune from my car?

its prolly the vats system, reset the security system before trying to write or read the vcm
basically open the door, close it, lock till the alarm beeps, unlock, open the door close it. then try to read or write to the vcm

Your car is fine!!

Rage is using the beta version of HPT (version 2.23, which I sent him for the LNF tuning) which sometimes will not work with the LSJ motors. He will need to take the program off and reinstall version 2.22 of HPT. That will allow you to pull the tune off the car.

I can email him the HPT 2.22 install file as well so that he can pull your tune

Also when changing in between years on cobalts, sometimes you have to delete the VCM Suite.cfg file in the settings folder. You will need to re-enter your application key after that, but then it will pick it up.

I just had this problem. Do as followed- delete the file in your hp tuners setting folder VCM Suite. This is how you do it. Right click start , click explore. click c:/, then documents and settings then click w/e user you are in windows with, then click documents- hp tuners -settings- then delete the file VCM Suite. Once you delete that file when you load hp tuners, it will ask you for your app. key agian. Thats it. Then it will work.

Again, this is not the same issue.... He's having compatibility issues with version 2.23 beta of HPT and his LSJ. Known issue, all resolved
