Question Help: Intake filter size for SS/SC

ive seen people on here that have hacked up the stock air box and put K&N filters. since i live in the twilight zone where autozone, kragen, and all the other cheesedick shops dont have ANY information on my car, so i need to know how big of an air filter i will need to swap out the air box for just a filter. also if you guys have a suggestion on a better filter than K&N, im all ears. thanks

not sure about size, as i haven't done this myself just yet, but i will say a lot of people seem to praise the AEM dryflo. Though you can't go wrong with K&N.

i was thinking of doing the air box mod, but decided to go with the K&N CAI. It was well worth it, especially after i took the stock out and saw how truely restrictive the air box is. I reccomend spending a little extra and getting the full CAI.

From what I have heard, the intake tube is 3.25". So the AEM part # for the correct filter is 21-2110dk. Advanced Auto Parts carries AEM products but I wish you good luck finding this size because I have had problems finding it. I think that it is just a rare size like everything else on our cars.

K&N #1009. I chopped off my box and clamped on a 1009. works perfect. At first I was worried about dirt and water getting in the filter.. I keep a close eye on it and after 7 months its not a problem at all. In fact I haven't even cleaned it once. My trucks filter was black and needed to be cleaned every oil change and its filter wasn't 5 inches off the ground. Full cai's are great but the stock tube isn't restrictive enough to justify the upgrade. Plus most cai's are metal tubes. metal = heat. As long as that stupid ass box is gone your supercharger will be pulling all the air it needs.

The #1009 filter is the direct replacement. (yes we share the same filter with a Trail Blazer)

It's a 3.375" inside diameter, which I don't see listed on AEM's website.

I wouldn't say that AEM is more import applications. They just don't have factory replacement sizes. If you go with a CAI, go with just about anything other than the AEM. It is nothing more than an over priced Airbox Mod. I have the Injen and love it, but I swapped the filter for an AEM Dryflow Filter so I don't have to worry about oil ruining the MAF sensor.

Go to the "How to Guide" it'll give you the knowledge you seek. You also won't have to start a new thread every time you need help.

a 3.5" filter will work fine....

i bought a 3.25".... and it didnt fit...

just put on a pep boys 3.5" and it works wonders.. the car PULLs now and SCREAMS!..

question.... could i just hack up the whole airbox??? or would that be TOO much flow and screw up the MAF sensor??? I only unbolted the bottom part, thats it....

Considering a CAI is less restrictive than the stock piping, I would say that it shouldn't make a difference, unless you want to put it back to stock for some reason.

Actually the k&n E-0777 is the direct replacement and what I originally purchased.. it does not allow you to chop off the box because the box is what holds it on. The 1009 is slightly larger and has an opening that can be clamped on without the box.... It will not fit without chopping the box. Wait.. I mean... go read the airbox mod posts.
