After GM installs my stage 2 and does the reflash..I want to go to Jim at pulleyboys for the 2.8 pulley. Do I THEN have to go back to GM for the reflash again after I install the 2.8? If so how will that work? They probably won't do it bc the PB pulley is on there. Can someone clear that up for me? If I don't have to.....is that it, or do I do the battery reset like y'all are talking about and that will solve it?

help

Thx

You put it on with an installer tool, GM recommends an alternator pulley installer, but a lot have used 3rd party install tools for s/c's
My buddy and I were talking to some semi mechanics yesterday and they said they would just use a correct sized bolt some washers and an impact wrench. As the bolt and washers pushes on the hub you'll be running out of threads so you just add more washers to compensate. Sounds like a jimmy rig way (not surprised coming from semi mechs) so I'll probably look into the installer tool.

I would use the installer tool, it has bearings, but if you go that route, use antiseize between the washers and that will make a rudimentary bearing for ya!

Sorry been very busy and on vaca which also equals being busy just got around to disconnecting the battery and resetting the PCM.

Car feels better, does not hesitate but still feels as if its being held back. Can't wait to get my car tuned!

Pulleyboys and Mase(redline owner) sells pulleys that go on the GM hub.

2.8" from Pulleyboys for $99.
2.79" from Mase (see ebay and type 2.79" pulley to find them) for $65 plus shipping.

so how much smaller of a pulley could be made to fit on the gm modular hub?? i don't have stage 2 yet so i have no idea how the fitment of the 2.8 on there looks like. Is there room for a 2.7" or possibly a little bit smaller? Or are the 2.8 and 2.79 that last stand?

2.8 is it...hub is too large for anything smaller
and a 2.79 is NOT going to give you anything over a 2.8

Yes, I agree the GM hub is fairly big and not made of Stainless Steel like all other aftermarket modular pullies. As for 2.79 vs 2.8, the only difference is approx. 0.15psi.

So a 2.8" pulley should yeild around 15-18hp realistically.

I will update the thread!
I like the way that sounds, cause mathematically a 2.8 pulley by that scale should yield a 20 hp gain. If it was a 15-18hp gain then the pulley size would be a 2.82-2.85inch pulley. Taking other things into consideration was a smart idea. Well at least thats wut i think you did lol

correct me if im wrong

No you are absolutely right. I'm just being realistic.

Realistic is right...think about it...if the stock pully is 3.6, then going to the GM stage 2 would get you about 265hp, and the 2.8 would get you 285hp...not going to happen.

Thanks for all this info - this sounds like the best way to go for those of us not looking to go insane with our cars and still want to have a *chance* a keeping the warranty.

BTW - the bit for the GM hub bolts looks like a star bit, not some special GM only bit. They might be hard to find, but companies like Snap-On or Mac or Matco should have sets or even sell you individual bits. And if you got your bit back and it looks helical (twisted), it's because they tightened the bolts too much. Same thing happens with a Torx bit - they'll get a twist in them if you turn them too hard.

No problem bro. Yeah this 2.8" is as small as I will go. I'm going to grab this pulley before I get my tune. Definitely a good power/price ratio.

I don't think there is any way they would notice bro. Aspecially if you use the blue screws that come in the kit. You have a good idea, I would roll with it.

BTW! Thanks for all your hard work out in the field bro. We all appreciate it!
