HELP! Supercharger noise during boost, coupler?

I have been reading through the forums non-stop for about 2 weeks now about the coupler in the supercharger. I am wondering if anyone has had this problem or knows what this problem is:

The threads I have read only describe a noise at idle, like rocks or dice in a cup or tin or something. Nearly all the noise my s/c is making starts when i start to boost, around -10 or so, not only at idle (it's not very loud at idle) . Its very hard to describe this sound and I want to get a sound clip up of how it sounds during boost. I am stock right now btw. The sound is definatley a rotating sound, and increases in quantity as boost increases. Anybody got a clip of this if they have/had it too? I know what this supercharger should sound like, and it doesn't make this loud of noise.

Does it sound like a high pitched whine? Cannot really know what it is without hearing it.

typically the coupler makes noise at idle when it is worn. It happens because at idle the engine is constantly adjusting speed so it causes the SC to "rattle". When under throttle there should be no variation in engine speed therefore no noise. I suppose if the coupler is completely worn to **** it "might" rattle all the time...

I would pull the SC off the car and examine it. See if there is anything rubbing anywhere, especially see if the rotors might be rubbing on each other or on the housing. It is also possible the needle bearings in the rear of the SC rotors could be bad/going bad and causing the noise.

And this just started?

I sit and read threads with people having issues all the time, and I'm at 98k and have rarely had the same issues that most people have. Strange.

A lot of it depends on how you drive the car. Alot of people have alot of issues because the drive the car ***** to the wall 50% of the time or more. My SS/SC jsut turned over 78K miles and has never had any issues. I have noitced I do get some coupler noise at idle, but it is hardly noticable unless you know what you are listening for.

i have only onwned this car for 10k miles, got it from the dealership. but judging by the stupid "cosmetic enhancements" they made, they were terrible to the car. i am enjoying learning about the LSJ and repairing stuff, though.

The coupler is a cheap and easy part to replace. Just order the upgraded one, i think its 30 bucks, and get 2 bottles of gm supercharger oil.

The ZZP coupler would be fine. There isn't really a "GM" part as according to GM the SC is maintenance free and sealed for life. There is an OEM Eaton coupler that you can get from somewhere (I have seen it before somewhere) but the ZZP one would be fine.

The easiest way to move the tensioner and get the belt off is to use a prybar. I have an 18" prybar that I used to push down on the tensioner; worked like a charm.

well thats just the pulley on the snout. You need to open/take off the snout of the SC and the coupler is inside, kind of looks like a puck. So get in touch with zzp or magnuson and get a replacement coupler and like stated 2 gm sc oil bottles. You need 6oz I think and each bottle is like 4 or something.
