HELP! timing chain jumping links
Well if u seen my other thread ud kno I'm doing my piston rings. Well, after doing the head gaket last. I timed it correctly and before I took the head off I put piston 1 to TDC and the marks on the timing chain are off. And as I was turning the engine over by hand I watched as the chanin would gain slack and jump a tooth. Then tighten back up once turned some more. Is this cause of a worn chain tensioner?
maybe, i just replaced mine but thats because the original died out on me and i could hear my timing chain clank really loud. Timing is a scary thing but yeah you probably have a bad tensioner... make sure to fix ur timing.
Well I don't recall hearing mine at all but I kno I had that timing correct when I put it together and then when I checked it before I took the head off the chains timing marks were off. Also, when #1 is TDC should all the valves be completly closed or will a couple be slitghtly open?
when #1 is at tdc the valves on other cylndrs will be open. once you time the engine it takes alot of revoloutions for the timing marks to line back up its like 200 or something like that the reason you are getting slack in the timing chain is because the lack of oil pressure and your also not spinning the engine fast enough
Gotcha. Well I just got off the phone with dan at CED. The tensionser will get out today.those guys are great they get that stuff out fast! Some great guys for sure
