Help with transmission fluid
Help with transmission fluid
I purchased a couple of quarts of Royal Purple Syncromax for the 5 speed in my SSSC. A buddy of mine put it in the 6 speed of his 98 Vette and I could feel a difference in the shift smoothness here in Cleveland where it's been quite cold.
I'm looking for good advice, techniques, and tools used to get the drain an fill plugs out of my transmission. I tried removing the fill plug with a standard allen wrench and was only successful in causing a minimal amount of damage to the hex key slot in the plug. I ordered a new plug at the dealer that I will use for round two when it's do or die getting the original ones out. Any advice is appretiated. I don't understand why the plugs are so tight!!
PS. The new plug is gonna cost me $18.95 plus tax so anyone who has a good approach to this will be saving others lots of money!

It's really not special. If you dig deep into the service info the dealer uses GM says they can substitue regular Dextron III autotmatic transmission fluid if the correct fluid is not available. The Royal Purple is a nice upgrade for peeps like me who have to endure cold winters.
