High rpm issues! Help!

Ok, so I bought my SS last October. The only thing I know for sure is that it has a 2.9 pulley and a tune. I just put a k&n cai on it last week and I'm going to be getting a high flow cat in the near future.

At high rpms it makes a whooshing kind of noise and almost a ticking? and power disappears a little. Would this be from the stock cat? or maybe wrong injectors?

I'm a noob with this stuff guys! Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

Could be predestination... I'm not much of an expert at all but that's what it may sound like to me... it also could be an exhaust leak too.. have you noticed a boost increase with a new intake... I don't think it would be much if any. But I think the intake will allow you to build boost faster.. Maybe get an expert in on this. I'm just going all the little experience I have..

Intakes don't help build boost faster. Pulley's do.

ok not to disagree with u cuz I'm not very experienced at all. When I change my intake to the zzp 3in cai I noticed a slight bit of KR in my tune...it very well could have been ssomething eles. Cuz I pulled 1 degree of timing and the KR went away...very well could have been somethin eles. I thought that's Wat it was..

I was not talkin about max pressure...just the speed which it gets there.

Boost levels are determined by pulley size, and rpm on a roots style blower.

A smaller pulley will spin the blower faster per rev thus creating more boost at any given rpm....

An intake can draw in more air, and you may see a slight increase in boost, but this is due to the underlying fact that boost is a measure of restriction on a blower car. It does not build the boost faster.

lol

I think you ment Predetionation ( I can't spell it either) I doubt it would be that ,unless his knock sensor is toasted.
But if hes been getting that much Det then his LSJ is BYEBYE. Our PCMS will detect Det and retard the timing accordingly. Hince: Knock Retard.

Correct.

Every degree of knock can be worth around 2hp, so say he is seeing around 4* of KR in the upper rpms. He will be loosing around 8hp which is def noticeable.

A ticking noise at high RPM could probably be a broken flex pipe or busted timing chain tensioner.

High rpm issues - YouTube

Hopefully that works. It's like a hissing sound at high rpm.

I'm taking my car to a garage tonight, a bolt on my upper motor mount snapped. This car has been nothing but trouble lol

Sounds like an exhaust leak to me.

Check your downpipe's flex section, and check all exhaust flanges.

Ok, so my mechanic told me it was the supercharger hitting max boost and that sound was the excess air going through the bypass valve.

Does this sound reasonable to you guys? Thanks for the input, I'll check my exhaust next time I have it on a lift.

No.

You do not hear any hissing on a properly working blower.

My bet is broken flex pipe. Common issue and relatively cheap fix, <$150.

I replaced the whole down pipe shortly after I bought the car, so the flex pipe is practically new still.

Do you think it could be my tune? Like its just releasing the boost after it hits the stock boost pressure?

I dont know, I'm so confused. I trust my mechanic, but you guys are the experts on these cars haha.

Once again, thanks for the feed back

Man i hope you have larger injectors. The stockers are maxed out with a stock pulley. The tune could help but the 2.9 pulley with a tune and stock 34*injectors your car is running out of fuel at the higher rpms

Run some seafoam through a vacuum line and look at your exhaust. That will show if it's leaking. You could also try a boost leak test at your throttle body an make sure nothing is leaking. Injector seals, intake gasket and such

Start it up on a cold day (when the car is COLD) and listen for exhaust leaks.

That was my initial thought, but is there any way to tell what size of injectors they are?

buy a 99c plugs gap tool from auto zone (round circle with hole for key chain) remove coil cover, then remove spark plugs, then tap plugs on core support, tighten tha gap to about .032", is that dont work back em down to .030", failry simple, just dont go nuts n beat the plug on the core suppport and close the gap completely

this should help: Spark Plug Gap - NGK Spark Plugs - Tech Video - YouTube

the tool i use is the one he advises not to use in the video lol

I had a problem one time when I dropped pulley size and it was the boost bypass valve bleeding of boost. I was on a 2.7 but was making 8 lbs. it sounded kind of like a plastic bag waving in the wind. I unpluged the line and plugged it with a bolt and checked the tune and everything was ok so I left it unplugged for a while. Maybe that's your problem but just not as extreme.
