higher boost with stock pulley?

is it strange or weird that my stock car with just an airbox mod is hitting boost levels as high as 15psi right before the rev limiter? im sure my boost gauge is not inaccurate. i have a feeling its due to the very cold temps we're getting here lately in NJ but i can def repeat this over and over again esp. in 3rd gear.

Could be due to the cold weather and excessive load on the blower in 3rd...

In 5th, my boost creeps from 17.5 to nearly 20 at WOT.

Mine is simply not that. The cat was replaced the week before I went out and did a 0-160mph pull....But i'm not the curious one here.

Running in colder ambient temps will produce more boost.

im starting to thing its the cat too because i can smell it now after heavy pulls. funny thing is theres none of the normal clogged cat symptoms like bad gas mileage, poor performance, etc. i did notice however that my engine vacuum at idle used to be a consistant 18" but not rides more around the 20" mark. i guess ill have to flex my warranty soon.

I'm having similar problems. Mine feels like its falling on it's face at about 13lbs. (just over the stock setting) It sounds different now too. My Balt is all stock and just started acting up last night. I've had it for about 6 mos. so I don't think it would be a clogged cat. It's boosting to 15+ and I don't know why. Anything over 12lbs feels like I'm losing power. Can anyone help?

If you get more boost with the stock pulley, that is a bad thing and you are losing power. What you want is the complete opposite, less boost = more power (without changing pullies).

As stated, check everything on the exhaust side.

if you are boosting more than a lb or so higher than your "supposed to"
you have a problem somewhere.
in the frozen tundra, I will still only see about a lb more than summer.

20lbs? your askin for a popped motor lol.

If your touching 20lbs with a stock pulley, you got a clog somewhere.

I've got an appt. at the dealership in the morning. I've got a friend with an Ion Redline that said he had similar problems. He said it's probably a clogged converter. It's kinda weird. I'm hitting full boost at less than half throttle. I think I'm losing power due to lack of fuel. Like I said it's stock and I don't think the stock injectors can hang with the higher boost. That's why I'm losing power over 13lbs. If anyone has more suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks to all who've helped so far.

if you are running that much boost on stock injectors, you will be lucky if you havent done some damage already.
you are garunteed running lean up top, and thats asking for broken parts.

stay off that throttle at all costs until its fixed.

It was a clogged converter. I also had moisture in the intake side. Kinda sucks that the converter fails that soon. Gotta love factory warranties. The only thing it cost me was fuel to and from the service center.

Also, for anyone having issues with this, if its not the cat check to make sure your intercooler pump is working. I've seen a few cars with connection problems, where the plug wasn't in all the way from the factory. Look in the little fill neck with the car running, you should see coolant flowing across the bottom. If not, you will get overboosting and loss of power, and it gets worse in higher gears.
