How long should stock tires last?

Just that. How long should our stock tires last if you were to not drive aggressively?(sp)

I am trying to get some warranty work done, and one of the dealerships is telling me I abuse my car obviously due to my tires. I VERY rarely peel out, but do take turns quickly.

So I am just wondering how long are tires are rated to last under typical driving conditions.

I have about 28,000 miles on the original set of Rossos and still have better than 60% tread left... But I have an '03 Ranger in my driveway that I got 80,000+ on the factory tires and has a set of Yoko AVS S/Ts on it now with 90,000+ with about 10% tread left so take it for what it's worth... I am probably not the norm...

Mine lasted 30k. Tell the dealership to f*** off and honor your warranty.

I never drove aggressive, never smoked the tires. My tires had to be replaced at 35,000 miles. The last car I had, a 2000 Cavalier I went 100,000 miles before the tires had to be changed. The true average treadwear rating for the stock Pirellis is about 22,000 miles or so.

I will say these tires go from tread to no tread quick too. At 25,000 miles I thought "wow my tires still have 50% tread left" then by 30,000 I looked again and the treadwear indicators were almost showing.

So, how many miles do you have on the car and what does the tread look like?

^^True that..

Dealership said "i know you have been beating on the car because the tires are bald all the way around."

I have 16k miles on the car, and they arent bald, I could borderline pass inspection..

So I am going to try a different dealership, but I fear they will say the same bullshit. I have corsa catback, so its a giveaway that I mod. I just dont get it. They get paid for warranty work..

P Zeros burn out crazy quick. The dealer said the same thing to me a long time ago. He asked me if I am doing burn outs. I was shocked by this because I never did a burn out or was hard on my tires because I knew how pricy the tires are. I think in general the dealers don't really have experience with tires of that quality and soft tread on GM vehicles except for the Corvettes.

I never smoked the tires on mine and the stockers only lasted about 10-11K on the front . I dont like to rotate ,so i just bought new ones. I think it depends on the road surface in your area , we have a lot of tar and chip roads that are very coarse almost like a cheese grater . If it was all blacktop here i'd bet they would have lasted longer.

I've got almost 20K on mine and they still look new. Plenty of tread left and I DO burnout quite often. Most times it just spins under hard acceleration on its own

You can mod all you want, an exhuast will not void any warranty except obviously the exhaust warranty. 16K on the Pirellis is not bad, you say they aren't bald yet so you probably have about 4K - 6K left of tread which falls in the rated treadwear for that tire. I would goto another dealership and see what they say .If they give you trouble try talking to the service amnager and if he doesn't help then call GM and tell them how the dealership is trying to shaft you by claiming abuse because your soft compound tires are wearing at a normal rate.

As correct as you are^, they have me by the *****. I don't have reciepts from when I changed my oil(i do it myself and didnt keep autozone reciepts), and with my "bald tires" they can easily make a case to gm that i abuse/improperly maintain my car.

I will try a different dealer, but i am trying to figure out how to avoid being labeled as an abuser when i walk in the door. I think I may try to wait till I can afford new tires, but that still doesnt solve the oil change thing. The problem i am having is a ticking valve. I am religious about oilchanges, and although i do "enjoy" my cobalt, I do not abuse it. So it seems that i am at the mercy of the techs.

I guess what i need to do is find a cool tech that doesnt want to just stick it to a punk kid that mods. Try to find one that simply recognizes a car with 16k on it shouldnt have a ticking valve, even if he gets on it occasionally. Easier said than done..

Thank you for all the responses guys, keep the answers and suggestions coming....

50,000 to 60,000 miles under straight driving no racing or burning out and normal rotations
