Hydro locked due to rollover
Hydro locked due to rollover
I rolled the LSJ powered sand rail and it sat upside down until enough manpower to right it arrived. Probably 10 minutes of upside down time. It has separate ignition and starter switches so I left the ignition off and bumped the starter. It was hydro locked. We did not have spark plug removal tools so I rocked the crank back and fourth with an adjustable wrench on the crank pulley bolt. It took at least 20 times with each time the crank rotated further and further. You could hear the oil gurgle in the head but it finally would rotate 360 degrees. It fired right up! As I slowly drove it ran fine until I needed to hit the gas. It popped, stalled and poured blue smoke. Oil was still trapped in the intake and supercharger. I had to keep going and it never stalled again but blew smoke every time I gave it a little gas. It finally cleared up and everything was fine! Moral to you guys with out the ability to turn it over with out the ignition is to make sure the engine is not locked with oil in the head before you try and fire it. If it fires on a cylinder it will bend a rod.
The engine is very low mileage and tight. All 4 cycle engines leak oil into the intake when inverted and mine was upside down a while. I was a little loopy after the roll so it may have been over longer.
Yeah its like adding insult to injury. After a rollover I have always heard you pull the plugs, let it sit, etc. Dont start it. Sorry to hear this especially on a new build.
when a hot engine is turned hot thin ass oil will leak through the end gaps of the rings rather quickly that is no indication of the condition of the ring set
