Just a note, I'm not sure what everyone is using, but I would recommend using just a silicone spray. You can get a can at NAPA for dirt cheap. Please don't use MAF or CARB cleaner...

I bought Throttle body cleaner. the bottle stated it was for cars with turbochargers or superchargers. Was like 2 bucks at wal mart. I saw one guy used water....

I didn't want to take a chance of using something not meant for the job and it mess something up. So I just bought some TB cleaner.

My car had the build up that started after like 1000 miles and the idle was CRAP! I cleaned the throttle body and it was all good again. Since then I've been cleaning my throttle body every time I change my oil just as a preventative maintenance type thing since then and I haven't run into any problems...

Well that is the problem but even when your car is idling your throtle body is going to be open slightly. So even whrn it's resting it should be angled a bit...

Do it, you will be surprised at the difference it makes...The car will run so much smoother. Just be sure the electronic plug is plugged in all the way when you re-install the TB. If it isn't you could get a CEL or you will get a "Loss of Power" type thing. My car feels better actually then when I bought it.

My car runs alot better... i just gotta get use to the slow rpm fall between 1-2. They all do it 1-2 is just the worse.

A dirty MAF sensor will cause a miss or loss of power upon acceleration. I have a CAI and I have to clean mine every so often because it gets a bit dirty and starts to buck and miss while I'm accelerating.

Clean your MAF sensor as well. I see you have a K&N CAI get some MAF sensor cleaner and spray it on and stick it back in. This along with cleaning the throttle body makes a huge difference for me.

I'm going to do this when I get home today. I thought that it was the spark plugs being too cold in the winter or a draw from my stereo system I put in the car. That the alternator could not keep up. Man if this solves it i will be so happy . I also feel a blip or hesitation when I go to WOT then it will take off . I bet this si what the problem is.2005 with 27k on it. I will report back later to day when I do this

Well I got done doing this and it took me two tries. The first time I did this I did not disconnect the battery and when I started the car back up the idle jumped and then when it went to level out it would jump up and down between 800-1100 constantly. I figured I would take the car for a ride to see what happens. Well it still did it. So the next time I disconnected the battery and made sure the gasket for the SC to the TB was secure and the connector to the TB was secure and then plugged the batter negative back in and vola the idle issue went away. I test drove the car and no more hesitation, no more drop in RPMS when coming to a stop. This actually fixed the problem I was having. I highly recommend this.

Oh I would post photos of how bad the black carbon was and what it looks like after but I'm blocked form posting any photos on this site for some reason. So if someone can post these send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you the photos to post.

Everyone should check theirs if they have a hesitation/idle problem.

Hey guys, this is messed right up. I am the guy who originally started this thread and Ive learned alot of good information since my post. I havent driven my Cobalt much since I first cleaned the TB mabye about 500km and it had been running perfect but now its back!!! I have no idea why its sticking again soo soon but luckily enough I had ordered an oil catch tank in which I intend on installing within the next week or so. I picked up the oil catch tank off a seller from ebay for under $40 and I am positive that it will be money well spent. For those of you that do not know what this tank does I will quickly explain. The tank kit will integrate with the hose that connects to the top rear of your valve cover and connects to the air intake. This is the hose in which all the gunk that builds up in the TB comes from. Now with the tank intalled in between the air intake and the valve cover, all of the gunky s**t will collect in the tank with only the air passing through therefore no more buildup of this gunk in the TB. I highly reccomend that everyone having this problem should invest in these tanks not only because it will save having to clean the TB very frequently but also extend the life of your engine. The more this gunk collects some will eventually make its way into the engine and possibly cause some damage to the engine. I would like to also say that I am soo happy that I have been able to help so many of you out there with this problem because it was soo annoying to myself that I was at the point of just trading my car in regardless of the tens of thousands I already have invested so I am very pleased. I will also post pictures of the catch tank once installed.

Go to home depot and get a water trap for a air compressor. theres a how to on here somewhere, but its like $11, and i can already see oil and still in it, so its working.

This works absolutely great. TB came off easy, used some throttle body cleaner and some gas with a brush and got it looking as good as new. Car idles like its new. Its nice to not have to worry about stalling every time i stop at a light.

thanks for the info, i came on here to see if others had the same issue, im gonna try this and see if it fixes it. I work at a chevy dealer and they couldnt even figure it out
