that is the basic reason.. when you stiffen the engine up with mounts or damper you are going to transfer more vibration through the car. What alot of the local cobalt guys are doing here locally is using Dynamat Extreme(use the extreme cause it has a higher temp rating) on hte inside if the firewall and around the strut area..The cobalt already has a dynmat style substance for this reason from hte factory around the strut areas for sound and vibration.. I would replace that also with the dynamat..

I did my car when I installed my damper and motor mounts and the difference between Dynamat and not is like night and day..hope theis helped..

also if you have any ?'s email me

I have a problem with noises. It definately fixed wheel hop and have no problems down low but I hear/feel under my foot vibrations when I accelorate from 2000-4000 rpm and also when taking a turn hard. It still accellorates and turns fine I just hear noises at htose times. Is that normal?
make sure you have the damper adjusted to the correct length..also DO NOT use the metal washers supplied in the kit..

when you install it make sure your eng. is in nuetral and that you adjusted the length of the damper so it lines up with the holes before you attach it.also another important matter is making sure you have the brackets as parallel as possible to the motor mount..

And to answer your question, if you're running hard you should be using both a dampener and motor mounts.
thread jacked yet again...

I agree that you should run motor mounts also.....the damper takes care of eng. movement from front to back while the mounts take care of movement from side to side..

Also BEWARE OF IMITATIONS!! Ingalls engineering has been in business for over 25 years and is one of the orginators of engine torque dampers. We solely test, develop, and research our products extensivly to make sure that they are of the highest quality and actually work unlike other companies that are out to make a "quick buck" off the aftermarket.

Not only do we stand behind our products we actually use them on our own cars. I have had my damper installed for over 2 years on a boosted civic and love it! if anyone has any ?'s regarding our damper please feel free to contact me directly..

No need to get into arguements...Ingalls has been doing this a long time and cynic/TQFWD has been doing these for the redlines/mazda's iirc for a long time. Both make a good product. I personally went with ingalls and had problems but they took care of me with top notch service!!!! (the wrong directions/washer thing). I know I'll be coming to cynic for strut braces and torsion beam stiffeners. Point is both make great products just execution is different...I just happen to like the ingalls style design.

ahh ok..

I didn't bash you or the product..I welcome competition and feel that everyone on the cobaltss.net community does too...

I am just bummed cause you are going to Ingalls damper specific threads and trying to slang your product while bashing the Ingalls Damper in the process stating that the current design we are using is YOURS??come on..

I'm glad you got top notch service because I didn't. Their solution for my damper problems was to drill the mounting hole out to make the damper fit. Great solution

Agreed...I'm not here to bash. I just don't appreciate propaganda pushed on me before I even have a chance to take off. I offered honest answers in my opinion for these vehicles. You'll go with whatever torque brace you feel is better. Sorry for the misunderstanding

ok let's make it offical...how's a little friendly competition sound?

let's get an unbiased third party on here to do a review on the 4 different dampers for the cobaltss's and see what people find out and let the Cobalt community make the call..fair?

the catagories can be
1. price
2. function
3. and an actual "stress test" to see who has a better damper shock and brackets..

I think it would be fun and people can base their judgements off these findings instead of people bashing each other to sell their products...

let's start conversing pm btw..

Good talking to you..
got your email and it's on the way. I added some extra goodies for you too..

You got one of the production models that was "mistamped" without the correct hole pattern.. Our quality control got 4 of the 5 of the thousand+ brackets we did.. unfortunately you got the fifth one...i know that is no excuse but I just hope we can get you taken care of...

definitly contact me in regards to installing it and adjusting the preload and length...

BUT it sounds as if my motor is louder? Is this possible?

Ingalls Enigine Damper Trick no.1!!

Dynamat used for subwoofer enclosures is great to decrease vibration and noises throughout the car especially when you run the "Stiffy" damper on the hardest setting.. Cobalts actually come from the factory with sound deading material installed around the strut area...use dynamat extreme on the firewall and the strut area..even over the factory installed dynamat material..I would recommend dynamat extreme cause it has higher temp ratings than regular dynamat..you can really go crazy with this stuff depending on how crazy you want to get to decrease vibrations..

hit me up guys if you have questions like this..

Perfect launches yesterday every single time. Looks like these mods might not be necessary after all.
