installing a clutch need help with components

Crateenginedepot seems to have some pretty good kits. i know the lnf clutch is the same as the gmpp clutch for the lsj. does the lnf use a stronger pressure plate than the lsj? if so, will the lnf pp work on an lsj?

im kind of wondering which kit i should go with here since all parts seem interchangeable from what i have gathered:
Ecotec LSJ Clutch Upgrade Kit 19212712 - Crate Engine Depot
or
Cobalt LNF Clutch Kit 24239996K - Crate Engine Depot

it seems a new lsj flywheel is pretty cheap, so id probably jsut buy a new one and not go through the hassle of getting my current one resurfaced. however, wtf is up with the price of an LNF flywheel? are the two not the same? the images are identical.

lsj fw:
Ecotec 2.0 LSJ Flywheel 2005-2007 12584343 - Crate Engine Depot
lnf fw:
Ecotec 2.0 LNF Flywheel 2008-2010 12612794 - Crate Engine Depot

Here is everything you need to get:

Ecotec LSJ Clutch Upgrade Kit 19212712 - Crate Engine Depot

Ecotec 2.0 LSJ Flywheel 2005-2007 12584343 - Crate Engine Depot

You will also need a set of these, as they are torque to stretch, not torque to yield, so are only useable once. (Need 8)

Flywheel Bolt 11570626 - Crate Engine Depot

And you should always replace this when you are doing the clutch:

2.0 LNF Clutch Bearing - Cylinder 24242805 - Crate Engine Depot

And should probably get the three bolts to go with it:

2.0 LNF Clutch Bearing - Mounting Bolt 90541173 - Crate Engine Depot

They also suggest that you replace the "clutch pipe" which runs from the throwout bearing to the hydraulic fluid line. At your discretion:

Cobalt Clutch Pipe 24422067 - Crate Engine Depot

In addition, you may want to get a set of clutch pressure plate bolts, as it is extremely easy to strip them when removing since they are torx style bolts (and stiff as hell due to the factory threadlocker)

LSJ Pressure Plate Bolt 90470712 - Crate Engine Depot

And if you have the money to spend, and wanna do it while the car is apart and easy to do, you can throw one of these in:

LSJ Shift Cable Cable Upgrade Bracket 55563732 - Crate Engine Depot

Also, you can snag one of these if you want to make lining up the clutch disc simple when installing the pressure plate over it, although I was able to make do with a right sized socket on a ratchet extension.

Ecotec Clutch Pilot Tool 14534 - Crate Engine Depot

Trust me when I say having all this will give you the ideal situation for doing the clutch job. I can tell you from experience.

thanks pickles! just out of curiosity, why is the lnf flywheel so expensive? and what is the difference between the lnf clutch kit and the lsj clutch upgrade kit?

also one other question: do these cars have balance weights on the flywheel?

Ok you don’t need all that all you need is the pressure plate clutch and throughout bearing from the lnf the flywheels are the same the plate I got with the lnf clutch had the same casting numbers as the one that came out of my car and it has a grate feel and grabs a lot better than stock and I have been to the track several times with the setup and was able to get a 13.6 with it

the LSJ flywheel and the LNF flywheel are different.
the LNF disc is different to the disc in the GMPP upgrade kit. But fits.
The clutch pressure plate in the GMPP upgrade kit is 100% the same as LNF
the GMPP kit comprises clutch pressure plate with bolts, a disc and an LNF throwout bearing. Add flywheel, clutchpipe and flywheel bolts ,and you be good for little money from CED

I just took a flywheel off a LSJ and it is the same casting # as the LNF. Im trying to figure out what the difference is. I have a good LNF flywheel out of my 09 SS for sale with 2000 miles on it.

Can you use the LNF clutch bearing on the LSJ, with the LSJ flywheel/clutch?

Casting numbers dont mean two parts are identical.

does anyone know if the clutch and fw from CED come zero balanced, or do i need to take them to a shop to get balanced? are there any balance weights on the flywheel that need to be transferred to the new flywheel to match the balance of the old flywheel? if this is the case ill also make sure to mark the fw position on the crank.

Checking balance couldnt hurt, but isnt necessary, they are zero balanced.

I've honestly never heard about having to get the stuff balanced, but that doesn't mean it could (or should) be done. Look into it, but I'm not a good resource for that.

The flywheel bolt holes and the holes in the crank only line up one way, so make sure when you are mounting it, keep turning it until all of the bolt holes line up exactly. I have heard stories of shops drilling out the flywheel holes to be bigger, and that is a big nono.

Use the one that came with the upgrade kit. Sorry, my bad, I forgot that u were ordering the exact upgrade kit. See if the other tb is returnable. Check back with tom about the bracket; see if he sent it with the same order. He will be great about clearing anything up.

GM had problems with the one in my lsj stage 2 kit. They wound up using a different one to get mine working. I know some of the early kits had issues with the provided tb.
