Intercooler Pump Replacement
Intercooler Pump Replacement
So i'm pretty sure that my intercooler pump is gone. I used to be able to see flow in it and now I can't. I checked the thing and it was bone dry and had to fill it and had no luck seeing any flow. So my question is this: Does anyone know how to install one of these or have a link for a how-to because I haven't been able to find one. I do know that the best option is from OTTP because the Bosche pump is $99 on there and the stealership wanted to charge me $500+ and $100+ for installation, so they can go screw themselves.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Crawl under the car and listen to see if the IC pump is running at all. It is a black cylindrical device that is right under the intake manifold. It should make a "whirring" sound if it is working. If you don't hear anything, get a small hammer or wrench and tap on the pump and see if you can get it to start back up for the time being.
It is easy to change the IC pump. Basically, take the IC hoses off and let the coolant drain. After that remove the connectors from the pump and unbolt the top piece of the bracket that holds the IC pump on. Once you take the bracket off (I think it is two bolts) the top piece of the bracket and the IC pump should come right out. Replace the pump and put everything back on and you are done.
FYI - If you have never taken the hoses off, GM glues them and the hose clamps on from the factory. It is a real pain in the ass getting them off. I used a small pair of vice grip pliers to hold the hose clamp open while pulling the hoses off.

It is covered under the powertrain warranty. I just had mine replaced in my 05 under the 5yr/60,0000 mile powertrain warranty. Was told on here and by the dealer that it was covered.
If you are looking to upgrade we used a JABSCO p/n 50830-0012 on all of our Land Speed Record LSJ engines. It takes a little cobbling for the mounting but the increased flow is worth it.

If you can't monitor IAT2 there isn't anything to "see". Going on whether the coolant is "bubbling" or not isn't always accurate either. You should be able to hear the pump running. If you grab one of the hoses going into the pump and squeeze it a little you should be able to "feel" the coolant flowing through the hose; this is a much more accurate way to see if the pump is flowing or not. You might notice the car feeling sluggish from pulling timing.
My pump decided to die 2 days after I put my Interceptor in. I noticed my IAT2 was like 40 - 50 degrees above ambient when cruising at highway speeds. When I got home, sure enough the pump had quit. I beat on it with a wrench and got it to start working again, but the pump sounded like a meat grinder. GM did replace it under the extended warranty, however I had to argue with them for 3 hours because they were trying to deny the work since I had a dual pass endplate with option B. In the end I won. My winning point to them: Everything on my car is GM performance for the simple fact that GM said they would honor all warranty work on my car as long as I used all GM performance parts.
