Per a tech in back in the shop. the intermidiate shaft was not lubed properly at assembly. It will need lube when you can get it done., it's prolly rusted like mine. I'm doing mine when i get the stage 2 axles. You'll be alright for a bit. But when you get an oil change done have them check it.

the intermediate shaft clunking is covered under a TSB, if you take your car to the stealership they will order a new one and replace it free of charge. i've had mine replaced already and it took about 4 hours or so to get finished with the job.

i can get you the TSB number if you want, but the dealership will have to verify it anyway.

The I-shaft is not the only thing it could be, thought it is the most likely. I-shaft replacement in Suburbans, Tahoes, C/K trucks, and Impalas is very common. Cobalts rarely suffer from specifically this. Several different types of rattle have been identified and listed in TSB #04-03-08-006B. The steering column, I-shaft, and or loose PCM/TCM all could cause some or all of your noise.
