its blown

well just cruising in my 05 ss cobalt with 70k on it and barely any mods something gave up. i think i melted the rings. the oil cap off it puffs smoke out. So i am now thinking what i should do. I have the money i was going to put into my turbo 6.0 build but i guess now i gotta actually fix this thing. Can you drop a 2.4 or a 2.2 into the car with little modification adn just slap the supercharger on it? I am not a newb to cars jsut this forum. I am ase master certified and have a degree in hi performance. I am just firing out some questions or open to some suggestions out of frustration of this happening. if you got any ideas i am all ears.

Just find what happened and replace those parts and make it stronger.

you don't want to put a 2.2 or 2.4 in it that's for sure

to many headaches with the 2.2 and 2.4 sc...especially if your going to swap it into a sc balt...just fix it and make it stronger..that would be cheapest so you can keep most of ur cash for ur 6.0 build

the LSJ is cheaper than the L61/LE5 are anyways...
But you can probably just replace the rods/pistons/headgasket/studs and call it a day.

yea i took the head off last night and found a chipped number 4 piston. i got some forged pistons all arp fasteners, cometic gaskets, all ready to be ordered just as soon as the machining is done. I am just going to throw a 2.9 pulley and 45lb/hr injectors on and tune it for daily use. i figure that combo should be fun and last

okay should i go with the 10.1:1 OR 8.9:1 with the 2.9 pulley? I am looking at the wiseco coated forged pistons from turbotech since he responded to my questions. I wanna keep this daily driven and really don;t want to go less than the stock compression ratio. but if you guys know the 2.9 with a 10.1:1 does not fly then i will just go with the diamond pistons and stock compression ratio.also what ring width are most of you guys running?

and is there a place that carries arp rod bolts and main studs for these engines?

Stay with the stock compression. Just more tuning headaches when you change the compression ratios. If you went with the 10.1:1 pistons I probably wouldn't go lower then stage 2 unless you were investing in some cooling mods to go with that 2.9.

3'' catless downpipe, solid mounts, kn, nothing really special I got a good tune in it but apparently that does not account for ring gaps chunking the piston land. so yea basically the only mod is the catless dp

its not called the ls2 it is still a 6.0 but it is called the lq9 and lq4 the lq9 was in cadillac escillades (however you spell that) and has i think 50 more horsepower. the cylinder heads on them are the highest flowing cylinder head off a overhead valve engine. some tests have shown 320 cfm intake from the factory. to give you an idea our four valve head at 600'' of lift from zzp that is ported only flows 269 cfm and that includes a using a flow tube. thay make ridiculous power when you put a torubo to them. the lq4 is in silverados and such.

they also have the 5.3 which if i remember is called the lm4? don't quote me on that but that is also a iron block. all these engines are still based from the ls series with the ability to have just about anything off them able to be switched to parts from engines such as the ls2, ls6, ls1, ls7 etc...

interesting. are they similar to the vortec series then? It almost sounds like some of them ARE the vortec series.
