IT IS JUST YOU.

My car used to do it, but I've practiced taking off a lot, and it never happens to me anymore. I think it happens because once the clutch finally fully engadges, the RPMs for the engine and the transmission side of the clutch are just a tiny bit different, so the car bucks forward, then pulls your foot off the gas slightly, and it occurs again.

I hardly ever have the problem anymore unless I'm in a hurry to get into gear.

Man I cant believe how much this thread makes me laugh. Almost every post reminds me of the time that I downshifted into first going about 30KPH(my first standard car). I was so embarassed. Every now and then I get that picture in my head of me getting thrown around the interior of my car.

By the way that post about the animal rides in the mall made my day

My 2003 Mustang GT did the same thing, it's due to really low first gear ratios.

Car and driver said our cars were thrashy after 4k rpms as a downfall but i think its thrashy at all rpms unless you know how to drive the car well and drive it everyday.

My Cobalt SS is my sixth brand new car to date, and it's the first I have who bogs in first gear like that. I notice it was way better (smoother) with iridiums plugs, and my bet is that it will probably better too with better engine mounts. Car to date were : 1998 Pontiac Sunfire GT, 2001 Honda Accord LX-G, 2003 Acura RSX-S and two 2005 Toyota Corolla CE.

The car isn't bogging though, it is a combination of a very low gear ratio and shifting of the engine.

In some cases it is amplified by someone foot moving up and down.

Yup 1st gear is a crawler and sucks when u have to drive real slow like when ur in a li.e for a stop sign or small parking lot, i shift into second at like 10-15 mph...2nd gear is beast once ur at 2500 revs though so it makes up for itself when ppl are laughing at you lol

1st gear makes me giggle at times, then shake my head other times. The jerkyness is normal in 1st.

i think a polyurethane trans mount will probably help more than anything. poly control arm bushings and engine mounts will also help. This will reduce the backlash in the drivetrain that causes this.

It's happened in every fwd car I have ever owned that had 3 pedals. It's all in the ankle in keeping it under control. But if you have a bunch of bumpy pavement prepare to face palm.

im pretty sure the bucking is the engine moving in the engine bay if u get engine and trans mounts the engine wont move aka cause bucking cuz in my previous car it would do that but once i put in poly engine mounts it never did it anymore and that gearing was really short 10 mph first gear rev limter had to shift 3xs to hit 60 if it still bothers people get the engine and trans mounts problem solved

thats common for most s/c balts. 1st gear is to get ya rollin. i try to shift to 2nd asap. plus you dont get as much boost in 1st. its a high strung 4cylinder. i know exactly what your talkin about but i wouldnt worry about it. just takes time getin used to the clutch and how your car reacts. it rarely happens to me any more. but is pretty embarassing lol
