Just got my SS and already having problems :(

Hey all i'm new here, just picked up my '06 SS Cobalt Supercharged on Sunday 11/26/06, its used with 5,000 miles. Just got back from taking it back to the dealer for service ALREADY! I don't know if this is a commen problem with this car but my clutch was slipping really bad so hopefully they will replace that under warrenty since it has less than 36,000 miles. Also my cruise control was not working, the left switch would turn on but the set switch did nothing. Arrgg hopefully they can fix both problems and I won't have any more issues because I LOVE this car.

P.S. I read the thread about clutch slippage from shifting under 3,000 rpm but I always shift between 3-4,000, maybe the previous owner didn't know how to drive stick.

maybe driver abuse from before...man, my clutch is beautiful...just treat it nicely! and CERTAINLY let it heat up before any tough shifting.

Seems to be a hit-or-miss problem with these cars. I've had no issues with my car at all. The clutch in these things seems a little different to get used to, but seems to be a decent quality piece.

All cars have issues, it happens.

prior owner most likely got his thrills out of it before trading it in. Tires have decent tread? Also, check to be certain nothing was fucked around with under the hood. First signs of problems there..

Yeah the tires look good, I looked under the hood and everything looks stock. I'm siding with you on the driver getting his thrills out of it before trade in.

The dude that had that car was probably 16 and an ass. his daddy probably bought him the car, he tore the shat out of it, and traded it in for something else. Don't worry about it. sometimes used cars are like that but it wont be the end of the world. They will fix it, and you, try not to worry so much. The clutch takes some getting used to compared with other cars I've driven but you can shift between 2500-3000 without any problems, if you know what you are doing. ( a lot of people don't though)

Cruise is a easy fix. Just disconnect your negative battery wire. Let it sit for a hour or so. Re connect it and it should work. It worked for me after I installed my CAI. Was awesome.

i wonder if his slipping clutch is why his cruse dosnt work, i know when you press the clutch cruse shuts off, so when it slips the comp might get the same signal

I vote the clutch problem on our cars as 50% hit and miss, and 50% driver error. I have 13,000 miles on mine and it has never slipped. I'm also putting out 270whp and 238tq . Of course I don't launch it almost at all.

My is starting to slip on 7k hard 1-2 and 2-3 shifts...

I need to let off the gas for a split second to let it grab.

But under normal or spirited driving its 100% fine...

Just the hard 7k shifts.

It has 33,000 miles

So what is the ideal shift point for these cars in every day driving. Also what would be the ideal shift point for spirited driving. I've got a 3000GT right now and shifting from 1-2 it takes a second to really grab but after that I can shift at 7k fine. I normally tend to shift around 2500 or 3000 but when Im driving spirited (at least once a day) is it ok to shift at 4000 or 5000 that often. Also when I gun it occasionally is it going to be alright shifting at 5500-6700 or so? Just wondering as i do not want to buy it and put more strain on it than needed.

most of my shifts are around 4k, higher with spirited drivning...sometime lower but mostly around 3.5-4k

i have never had clutch slippage and have 12500mi on my car.

cruise control also works great but noticed sometimes i rest my foot on the clutch and disengage it accidently
