Just wrote to Vibrant ...

My question :

Is the header #2536 (for the Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged) is really a 4-2-1 and is this exactly like the picture on your web site ? Also, is the 2,5" collector size a disadvantage to get full power out of your 3" catback (#1627) for this same vehicule ? So how many HP and TQ to expect out of both pieces together ? Any dyno graphs ? Thanks !!!

Their answer :

Hello,

I would like to first thank you for your interest in Vibrant,

In response to your email, as you can see from the picture that I have attached (they also sent me a picture, but it is exactly the same as their web site), our header is actually a 4-1 construction meaning all 4 primaries merge into 1 collector.

The 2.5" collector size is actually critical to making maximum power while still maintaining a decent amount of backpressure. Any bigger than 2.5" and you will see large amount or torque loss on low end power. Any smaller than 2.5" and you will see minimal gains on top end power. A 2.5" collector size is pretty much the standard on all race proven performance headers when it comes to making power with 4 cyl naturally aspirated or boosted motors.

Our 3" exhaust system is designed to work with the 2.5" collector to help make maximum power.

Together, the header and exhaust combination will make upwards of 18+ horsepower.

Hopefully that helps.

Contact me should you have any further questions.

Best regards,

So why does their website still list this header in the "4 into 1" category?

Using a 3" catback after a 2.5" collector is a waste of money.

This post has made me wonder how large the collector is on my ZZP header.

I know my CTI is a 3" collector beacause i use 3" collector gaskets and it fits around it perfectly

Sorry, what I meant to say was that their website still displays this header in the "4 into 2 into 1" category.

Why haven't they corrected that?

Just wrote to Vibrant ... again !

My second question :

About this 3" Catback (#1627), do you know how many precise CFM it can flows without any hp loss ? The most restrictive part is probably the muffler itself; maybe you know how much CFM this muffler can flow ...

Thanks again !

Regards,

Their answer :

Unfortunately, we do not have actual CFM numbers for the muffler as we measure the success of exhaust system by measuring power on the dyno. At 18+ HP with the header and exhaust, we have done a good job at maximizing air flow to generate power. The muffler believe it or not isn't as restrictive as you may think. All of our Vibrant Performance mufflers are straight through designs and this particular application has a 3" internal construction.

Hopefully that helps.

Contact me should you have any further questions.
