K&N CAI CEL poll
K&N CAI CEL poll
so i've been doing alot of reading and researching on this site about K&N CAI.. I installed mine today.. took about 2 hours.. i DID NOT disconnect the battery, also cleaned the filter and re-oiled it, and wiped the MAF before installing.. so far no CEL yet.. so I want to get a vote of who all disconnected/didn't disconnect and of those who got CEL.. and how often should i clean the filter?
I don't understand why people aren't resetting their ecu's by disconnecting the battery. Your computer will basically think that the stock intake is on and you aren't getting what you should out of an aftermarket intake.
7000mi on mine w/ the ocasional CEL. Installed at 4000mi

I uninstalled my battery and got a cel immediately but it was just the PCM KAM malfunction which I just erased. Several months later I got the lean code and a few weeks ago I got another. Not bad if you ask me...
I've had my CAI installed for about a week, 300 miles, no CEL yet. Mine's not a cobalt but its an LSJ (redline). I've heard the O-ring on the MAF is somewhat difficult to seat into the tube housing correctly. I'd make sure its not pinched if you are getting CELs and also blow out some of the oil on the filter. Also make sure you keep stuff out of the intake. I vacuumed out the intake after installing it just to be safe. Other than the install being a bitch, I'm quite pleased with my Typhoon. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
Look IM sorry, I am a pretty firm believer that anyone can post whatever they want. BUT GOD im sooo sick of these threads. K&N intake DOES cause a CEL, other ones possibly do as well but it has been unproven. IF you have a choice go with INJEN or AEM, dont want to listen to my advice FINE enjoy your cel's

So far so good. I have a Injen intake and it has been on for about 1200 miles and I did not disconnect my battery. I have taken notice that the people who did not disconnect thier batteries have had fewer reports of getting Cel's than those who did. But I have heard of a few that did. As mentioned before the location can change everything from temp to elevaton and so on. Cel or no Cel my intake will stay on the car and I love the superchargers sound when at full boost
Over 500 MILES NO CEL FROM MY K&N TYPHOON, and Mercury is right, ALL INTAKES have shown that they will throw a CEL from time to time. I haven't had one on mine, but I've seen 2 other people state that their cars have throw CELs. Best thing to do is to take everyone's advice from the forums, go fertilize your lawn with said advice, and go with the one you feel is priced right, gives you the performance gains you want (although I wouldn't necessarily trust every company's HP claims) and has the best track record. Or you could just pick a name out of a hat.....
