Well my K & N is now installed. Drove it about 40 miles and no CEL. I made sure the

MAF was installed with the arrow in the direction of airflow and that it was

seated tight (no air leaks). I also did not disconnect the battery.

Sure sounds and feels great!!!

Mine didn't come on for the first 150 miles plus. So good luck. I hope it stays off for you. Post up after you drive the car for about 300 miles or so just so we can see if this problem isn't with every car.

Thats the way mine went on, the inner splash shield contacts the tube and keeps the top portion from seating fully against the inner fender

I have hardly any miles on mine (just installed it yesterday) but did disconnect the battery during the install and only CEL I got was the KAM which is gone now .... fingers crossed ....

Ok guys, yesterday I tried some things. I got to the filter/maf by taking out the front headlight (much easier then trying to take the wheel and splash guard off again). Anyway I cleaned the MAF with CRC Electrical cleaner, cleaned the k&n filter and lightly reoiled, and checked all of my connections. I didn't notice any type of oil on the maf, but I sprayed it some anyway just in case with the CRC. The filter also didn't look so bad, but I cleaned and reoiled that too. The connection between the intake and the throttle body which connects to the supercharger wasn't very good. So I secured that connection, by getting the end of the intake just inside the lip of the throttle body, and better secured the rubber boot around both. My car was bogging down at the begining of each gear, but now it is smooth and strong (I think it had to do with the intake/throttle body connection).

Unfortunately, the CEL remains. I have driven near 100 miles, and it has not gone away, nor do I expect it to. So everyone can pretty much forget the "clean your maf" fix for this, and the "clean and re-oil" the k&n fix as well. I am now 100% convinced that this is a computer issue. Although I'm still upset the cel is on, atleast I have the piece of mind that:

1. The maf is 'clean'.
2. The filter is not over oiled.
3. My connections are perfect.

We have 1 more week until sema (nov. 1-4). Lets hope GM will have a release date, that involves 2005, rather then 2006.

THE STAGE UPGRADES ARE DONE GM FRIGGIN RELEASE THEM.

Ok took it to work today - of course the dreaded p0171 lean. did a little research. The PCM is calibrated extremely sensitive. Bulletin says that uneven pleats in the air filter
element, air leak in intake duct or unseated dip stick tube may cause the code. WTF??

Well I cleared the code, performed a "fuel trim reset" and have driven it about 50 miles without a code.

so... well see. Im hoping that resetting the fuel trim and letting it relearn to the k & n

will solve the problem.

When you disconnect the battery it resets the fuel trim as well and well, I am on my 5th P0171 from my K&N.

Generally this DTC wont fail at WOT, so AFRs at WOT wont mean much. The fuel trim system must in active trimming modes which is generally only during steady road loads at below 85% throttle.

I talked to dave at modern performance today and he said they drove there car for a month before the light went out. So I will be reinstalling my K&N and my magnaflow exaust next monday after I bring my car in for sevice on saturday. So they are pretty confident that the car will adjust. I will try again. I even told them that the light went off and stayed off when I put back my stock intake. They said they helped K&N develop this intake so I guess I will take there word for it and drive the car for month. I also asked if the car was running lean when the light was on and they said that when they dynoed it there was no sign of the car leaning out.

It's a light show w/ my SS. The light came on on Friday, we cleared the DTC(s) (Aside from the P0171, I also had one stating something of an internal malfunction in the PCM..) and then the CEL came back on last night w/ the p0171 code. I didn't attempt to do anything and drove the car to work, on the way there the CEL went off and has been off since. heh.

Funny they didn't mention that when they were selling them. In fact in another thread they said they just got the 'memory cel' and the dealership reflashed the computer. The guys at modern seem great, but this would have been nice to know ahead of time.

Hopefully the stage upgrades will be out sooner then a month :p

When you disconnect the battery it resets the fuel trim as well and well,

I dont believe the pcm will reset the fuel trim by disconnecting the battery. You can unplug

the module, sit it on the bench for a week, plug it back in and it has the same internal

memory as before. The earlier OBD2 PCM's would require idle and fuel trim resets after

battery disconnect - the new gmlan pcm's do not. Its been a few days and 120 miles and

no code yet. It came on before after 25 miles.

so...

well see

No matter what intake we buy the CEL P0171 system too lean, will always be set. In some cases even stock SS have been throwing this code. I only have the air box modd with a DRY flow filter and I still get it all the time. We have to wait for GM reflash correction or the Stage reflash.

I cleared my code and I can drive it for days with no code if its all city and below 60 mph driving. As soon as i hit the highway at 80 constant speed it will come on in 5 minutes every time.

so...

who knows

Maybe the air around the filter becomes turbulent and causes it to read lean.

So all of yall who say your not getting a code with the K & N, air box mod or whatever

try hitting the highway, set the cruise at 75-80 and see what happens.

OK after reading so many posts about CAI and CEL's I have a question. If you do pull a code does that change anything power wise? I mean I could live with the light temporarily as long as it wasnt effecting my performance of my SS. If you throw a CEL does it put your car in retard mode or something?

lets face it, there is no way we can run cai's on their car. damn gm. my cel did not come on til 1500...yes, 1500 miles after i put the damn thing on. this prompted me to go buy a cheap obd2 reader, and even when i dont get the hard code i am constantly getting 4 soft codes. also, i can always tell when i'm about to get the code, bc i can smell my cat getting real hot. i'm just gonna take the thing out si i dont mess up my cat or o2 sensor.
if gm is smart, they will let their little tuning marketers design a new maf for us. i think that would be the most practical fix, and would allow them to make a handsome profit. i would like to know if running a greddy emanage piggyback with only the cai would be code free. has anyone looked into this? i was gonna wait til i get the pulley too, but if this can fix our problem i'll get it first.

Well, I just recieved my intake today, installed it. With the intake in, I drove about 12.5 miles, (KNOCK-ON-WOOD) I have not thrown a code. The gains, from what I can feel are amazing. So as time goes on I guess I will see...Also, I bypassed disconnecting the battery cable step....
