Is a lightweight flywheel worth it?

Im getting a clutchmasters stage three clutch. would buying a lightweight flywheel with it be worth it in gains? I race the car twice a mo. 1/4 mile.

Havent heard that much about them actually, but, I do commonly see though that as long as your going to have everything torn up anyway, you might as well do it while your changing the clutch.

I have no idea about gains, but if its something you might ever consider in the future, you should probably do it while you are changing your clutch.

it makes the egine rev a lot easier and it slows down faster as well.... but, it makes the car a bitch otherwise. the idle usally sucks, low rpm can be a pain in the ass, etc.

if you're going to lighten it, either have the oem one machined to save a little, or buy one that is not superlight, but lighter than stock.

This is all i can find on it.

notice it says nothing about loss of low end tourqe. i want to know if the gain in efficiancy of the supper charger and gain in mid to high end rpm is worth the loss in the low end.

I'd go ahead and lighten the flywheel while you are going.

The stage tunes up the idle speed to nearly 1000 RPM so there shouldn't be too much of a problem. We all know how much the LSJ loves to hang on to those revs once you get her up there... a lighter flywheel would help solve this problem. As long as you've got it torn apart you may as well do it... as far as I know the stock flywheel isn't made to be machined anyways.

I got a lightweight fidanza flywheel on my old Celica and I say it made a difference. I couldn't tell you how much of a performance gain you are going to get, but it definitely is a noticeable difference. The hard part is that since you are getting a clutch installed at the same time, you will notice a much harder engagement, and it's hard to tell what is causing it.

From what ive been told by mechanic's at a couple of shops, our flywheel is machinable ! They said they had several of them turned down off off ss/sc. And they never had any problems or issues! Does anyone know for sure?? I will be needing a clutch myself before the summers out and im just barely swinging the funds for the clutch and labour. I'll never be able to afford the flywheel also !! Anyone know if it Really is able to be turned ?? Thanks !

well, i'm sure it can be resurfaced. if you can find a high quality lighter one, go nuts. i would do it myself, but again, the idle may be slightly off.
