LNF exhaust on a LSJ?

I was going to order a 2.5" catback from mandrel bent exhaust systems. But a fellow member who has a SS/TC will be getting his catback installed in a few days and lives 5 minutes from me. I thought I read on here the stock TC catback was 2.5". So I guess my question is would it be worth it to just buy his stock SS/TC catback rather than spend the $285 on the same diameter from Mandrel bent exhaust systems?? If it is then I'll spend the money on a badmab and zzp DP.

Thanks,
Ryan

This doesn't answer your question but I have a zzp catted d/p for sale. It is 3" from header to 2.5" exhaust back flange. I have had it on the car for about a month. no leaks or holes just going cat-less. $140. My cat-less d/p should be in tomorrow so I should have pics in the next couple days of it off the car. pm me if interested.

No i have a stainless steel catted 3" zzp downpipe (3"in and 2.5" out) for sale. Just trying to save some you some cash on a new one. Mine is only about a month old.

Figure out what exhaust route you are going and if you need a downpipe and are interested just pm me.

PM'd on the DP. I'm thinking I haven't maxed out my stock exhaust yet anyway. All I have is a 3" CAI. So even if it doesn't fit I'd probably benefit more from a header and DP.

I'll be getting aluminized piping anyway. This is why i'm curious about just getting that stock TC exhaust, since I'm sure it'll be way cheaper than $285.

I'm looking at your sig and you have a Cobalt SS by the looks of it. You are wasting your time by swapping. They SS/SC and SS/TC have the same exhaust size. They both taper down near the rear axle to 2.25", save for an aftermarket stainless steel one.

Incorrect.

The SS/TC's stock catback does not tapper down. It is a full 2.5" catback (unlike the SS/SC's).

I don't know if this is right or not, but is the catback portion of the exhaust on the TC shorter than the LSJ cat back? I would just assume as much since you know...the turbo.

I wouldn't know whether or not the exhaust would be bolt on, which I suppose is a good question for OP to be asking.

So I would benefit from swapping to a TC exhaust since it's a full 2.5"?

everything i've read says SS/TC exhaust is 2.75" you'd have to hack the flang off the front and put a 2 bolt flange up there for an SS/SC car

It's 2.5".

I think the entrance of the resonator may be 2.75", but the rest of the piping is 2.5".

Yes, but it might be a little raspy on an LSJ. The SS/TC's stock catback has a much smaller resonator. Also, you would need to convert the 3-bolt connection flange on the SS/TC catback to a 2-bolt connection flange so it will fit the LSJ downpipe.

I sort of assumed there would be some modification needed. I can also cut out the stock TC resonator and put an aftermarket in if needed. My main thought is what's the point of buying an aftermarket 2.5" when a TC exhaust is the same size and will net me hopefully similar results. Thanks for all the input guys.

This is not something I'm worried about as my only mods will be CAI, header, DP. I highly doubt I'll be making enough HP at this point for this to really be an issue. And besides think of it this way. Stock exhaust is crush bend so you buy an aftermarket bigger mandrel bent exhaust and gain what like 5hp? So my main worry isn't my exhaust at this point.

The stock catbacks on both the SS/SC & SS/TC's are mandrel bent from the factory.

Again good info. Thanks!! So what I'm looking at is basically swapping out the front flange from a 3-bolt to a 2-bolt? Which I'm sure any decent muffler shop could handle. And I'll have a full 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust for much cheaper than most aftermarket exhausts.
I picked up a badmab header and ZZP catt'd 3"-2.5" DP on the forums classifieds. The header should be shipped today and the DP in the next 3 days or so. Another local member with a SS/TC should be getting his aftermarket catback this week so I'm hoping to get his stock exhaust this weekend. Again thanks for all the input guys! As soon as I get this done I'll post up some pictures and videos.
