low coolant...

My '07 has about 1300 miles so far, the day after i bought it i took a 200 mile drive since i moved to college. When i started it up the next morning after the drive to make a quick errand i got the "LOW COOLANT" warning. I popped the hood and checked it out and the coolant was at the correct level. That was on Aug 17th. Fast forward to Sept 3rd, the light shows again after not coming on since the time in august. I also had my GMP header and exhaust put on that day. No codes are being stored, checked by one of my friends who is a GM Tech. Now about 75% of the time i start it, i get the "LOW COOLANT" message. Coolant level is still fine. I'm thinking it's just a bad sensor, going to the dealer to put on my stage 2 so i'll have them check it out...i monitored the coolant temps during a trip and when cruising at 60-90 the coolant temp is around 182-185. When i'm in traffic going below 20mph the coolant temp rises to 215 to 220.

Any ideas besides just a bad coolant sensor?

Probably a bad sensor. When in traffic, turn on your A/C, it will keep your temps at 190 max. I hate it when I look down and see something crazy like 215....

i threw a low coolant light when my cap wasn't screwed on tight, but when that happened the coolant started to over flow due to the temperature difference. take it in and get the sensor replaced under warranty.

although sometimes the air needs bled out of the cooling system....I hope that's not your case which I don't believe it is

yeah, i think the 07's all came with the coolant a little low. the 2nd day i had it showed low coolant, then a month later i got it again. Bought a bottle of Dex-cool just to have in the trunk and i added a little. No "low coolant" light since then(2 months ago)

Same here, started the day after I bought it, except mine is actually losing coolant and the dealer can't figure out where it's going. At first they said the sensor was grounding out (the plug-in underneath the overflow tank) so you may want to check that.

Mines an 06 and I get it all the time, and my coolant level is correct aswell. I just ignore to. When the car warms up it goes off.
