LSJ in 2000 J Body

My friend recently purchased an LSJ with 5000 miles on it because it was a great deal (800$). He has an '00 sunfire project car with the 2200 and I'm wondering, how hard would it be to mate the LSJ with the getrag upto the '00 j-body?

Is it even do-able?

Should work, 02-04 j-bodys had the 2.2 ecotec, at most it would take the engine cradle from one of them, as for the trans, donno ask mantapart.com they might be able to help,

?? he just said it has the 2200 motor, not the ecotec

but if the 2200's can swap to 2.2 ecotec's its gotta be doable. but what about the trans?

don't know about the trans, yes the ecotec 2.2 should be able to swap into the 2.2 ohv, but he may have to get the engine cradle from a 02-04 that had an ecotec.

The LSJ WONT go into the jbody because of the tranny being to wide I belive. Tell your friend to swap in a 2.2 ecotec and use the supercharger from that lsj. The get the ecu reflashed at the dealership. I know it is possibal to swap the LSJ head onto the 2.2 but you have to make a cut in the master cylinder to make room for the cam sensor.

It won't swap, I already tried after throwing a rod in my 2.2 with the 2.8 pulley at the JCO Jbody bash.

Anyways, most differences can be worked around. I had them all done, however when I tried swapping the oil pans I noticed the main problem. The crank on the 2.2 has 7 marks on the crank for timing, the 2.0 has probably 100. If he wants to swap the 2.0 motor into his sunfire he will need every piece of wiring/computer from the cobalt/ion or a full stand alone.

I really wanted to do this swap, would have been great

A full ecu, harness, engine and cradle swap would probably do it with a beefed up 00-04 trans.

here's a silly question... if GM racing can use an ecotec on an impala automatic... couldn't that be made to fit?

If the Impalla auto will swap into the J-body, yes, but if not, well I'm sure there are beter choices if you got to cut to make it fit.

Why not just build the bottom end on a 2.2 eco and put the charger on it. You CAN make just as much power with the 2.2 as the 2.0 if you have a strong bottom end.

ya, with a nice build and set up the 2.2 eco is pretty sick and responds pretty well to mods.

I would not advise buying from Mantapart. Way to many Jbody owners have been screwed by them, some of my friends infact ordered some rockers and cams and never got a thing! A couple people have had some luck ordering COD but that 2 out of a lot .

Turbotechracing.com
Carcustoms.net
Jbodyperformance.com

are all great places to grab 2.2 ecotec parts for sure.

I would agree with phlatcav. Swap in the 2.2 and use the supercharger. The 2.0 trans has a whole differnt mounting system than the F23 trans used on the 2.2L engine. It is possible but the 12 psi on the 2.2L would be a nice setup for a lot less work.
