I've done quite a few searches but have yet to find the answer: but what is the purpose of the clutch on the alternator on the LSJ?

I've read several different opinions but nothing definitive.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

 

so you dont use ponies while the alternator is not charging the battery or running the ignition system?

 

the clutch in the alt is for accelerating it slips under a hard pull
